Guy Berger Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 as I've got no Handy I think I'm going to grab this one... and maybe the Live at Yoshi's 2CD Good choices???? Yes, they are good choices, Handy is a very fine player, in my opinion, and the Columbia recordings in the Mosaic set are some of his best recordings. The reunion of the Monterey concert band is not as exciting as the original concert, but it is still worthwhile. The Monterey concert is one of my favorite live jazz recordings, and one that retains interest after many listenings. Seconded. I haven't heard the reunion but the Monterey concert, as well as the studio album that followed, are both more than worthwhile. Guy Quote

She likes talking to them so much that she has not wanted to get any birthday or Christmas gift for me other than a Mosaic set, since their first year of operation. Even if I suggest something else, she rejects it, saying that she only wants to talk to those nice people at Mosaic. Quote

Head Man Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Now that a Japanese re-issue has been announced for his second Roulette album 'No Coast Jazz', does that mean a Mosaic Select is even more unlikely to see the light of day? I love his Roulette albums so I'm tempted to get the Japanese release and hope that the other two get released in Japan as well. Quote

Handy's Roulette album In the Vernacular was released on CD in Japan in 1999 (TOCJ-6305). I would love to see a Select with Handy's Roulette dates, but I don't think we'll see one anytime soon. Besides, I think 3 albums would not be enough to fill a 3CD Select. Quote
