Given that the last post on this thread was a week ago and assuming that those in the loop would have posted something here already if Freddie's condition has changed one way or another, I would like to add that I hope Freddie is comfortable and that any number of white jive motherfuckers he wishes will please kiss his black ass.

It's always best to check RELIABLE sources before posting an obituary for anyone. About a dozen years ago a now-defunct weekly music trade magazine listed Marian McPartland among the year's deaths. I was in touch with her regularly at the time and had received no email about her passing from Concord, I immediately knew it was in error. Sure enough, a call to Concord refuted this goof by the Zimmermans, I believe. A retraction was posted a week or so later.

I left a message on her answering machine joking about it and she called me asking "What's this about me being dead?" Evidently, I was the one who broke the news of the foul-up to her.

She's outlived the magazine by quite a few years, that's justice!
