riverrat Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 There are a couple of copies of this CD on half.com right now for $29.99- not really a bad price for a very rare CD and an outstanding performance including some smokin Woody Shaw. One is a new copy. Usual disclaimers apply- I'm not affiliated with the sellers, have nothing to gain, etc... Quote
.:.impossible Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Someone just recently mentioned that this is also available at amazon.com as an on-demand album (CD-R, artwork/liners on digital press, etc). Quote
MartyJazz Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Someone just recently mentioned that this is also available at amazon.com as an on-demand album (CD-R, artwork/liners on digital press, etc). Isn't that just a copy, i.e., an illegal violation of copyright? Quote
Claude Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 (edited) No, it looks like Amazon licensed some OOP recordings for CD-R release. Check the Gil Melle thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...c=48143&hl= Edited December 5, 2008 by Claude Quote
ejp626 Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 No, it looks like Amazon licensed some OOP recordings for CD-R release. Check the Gil Melle thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...c=48143&hl= The whole thing is pretty weird, but who better than Amazon to know which OOP CDs are constantly searched for and what prices they will fetch. I wonder if that means that someday any OOP CD (that isn't available as a legal download) that also fetches $25 and upwards will be licensed by Amazon. Very intriguing. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 I'll ask again, because I'm curious--was anyone able to put together a list of what's available this way? Quote
zen archer Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 (edited) Telepathy by Bill Stewart is another one that is a CD-R and here is a snippet of a review from Amazon from someone who purchased it: This CD is not pressed from a master as most CDs you buy are. It's a CD-R that's printed on demand by Amazon themselves. As of this writing, the information appears under Editorial Reviews, but not in any of the product description areas where one might expect. The print quality is no better than passable on the CD label and artwork, sort of blurry and not cut evenly. The music data seems to be fine, but of course I have to wonder about the longevity of the product, being a burned CD. Edited December 5, 2008 by zen archer Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Is Telepathy in high demand? No idea, but FWIW -- it is a pretty nice date. Quote
.:.impossible Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 I like it ok, if I remember. I also got Think Before You Think around the same time and remember liking it more. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Just received my copy of "Live at Montreux", as mgraham333 described with the Gil Melle set, very nice job. Nothing wrong with the sound, its not an MP3 transfer, and the label on the disc is very nice. Great music too. If Blue Note is licensing OOP titles to Amazon, they are onto something here with this on demand CDR service. Quote
