Big Wheel Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 Just noticed that the Conns are real cheap on Amazon right now. prizes seem to go up and down... but these discs are around for 10 $ these days, yes. Actually, $7.50 each if you get two. I just ordered a bunch of them plus some of the deleted titles. Quote
BruceH Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Got an email from True Blue today- A large number of superb titles from the Blue Note labels will go out of print by the end of this year, including a number of CDs from the RVG and Connoisseur Series. So you don't miss out on albums that you have been intending to purchase, here is a list of the casualties of 2008. We don't know the exact quantities left on these items, so it's best to order sooner rather than later. To ease the squeeze, we have put a number of these titles on sale. The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Oh, thou good and faithful servant! MG A Blue Note stockholder? Never in my wildest dreams - well, particularly not my wildest dreams, I should say... MG Quote
Big Al Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 The Jack Wilson is really swinging with McLean in great form. Worth it just for the photo in the booklet with what appears to be a very stoned Billy Higgins (and Cranshaw too for that matter!). Oh yeah! "Frank's Tune" is my favorite song from that set, but they're all tremendous. A picture of this album cover is next to the word UNDERRATED in the dictionary. Quote
BruceH Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 I put all the Brooks on my X-mas list. Here's hoping. I put Jacknife on there too for early Jack DeJohnette. All four Brooks albums are essential. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 (edited) I put all the Brooks on my X-mas list. Here's hoping. I put Jacknife on there too for early Jack DeJohnette. All four Brooks albums are essential. oh yeah definitely. I already have the True Blue RVG so I just need the other 3 HolyGhost, can you post that pic in this thread? I'd love to see that. Big Al Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 As long as you're getting TRUE BLUE, get Freddie Hubbard's OPEN SESAME. It makes a perfect companion album. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 I put all the Brooks on my X-mas list. Here's hoping. I put Jacknife on there too for early Jack DeJohnette. All four Brooks albums are essential. Yup, sure are. Quote
AndrewHill Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 I put all the Brooks on my X-mas list. Here's hoping. I put Jacknife on there too for early Jack DeJohnette. All four Brooks albums are essential. Yup, sure are. Yeah, you'll want to get 'em all eventually. Back to the Tracks has some very good McLean, while Minor Move has some great Morgan. Coles is OK on The Waiting Game, but still a very worthy session. Any Brooks is good in this book. Quote
BruceH Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 As long as you're getting TRUE BLUE, get Freddie Hubbard's OPEN SESAME. It makes a perfect companion album. God yes!!! That's absolutely true; Brooks plays on the album and it includes two Brooks originals that aren't on any of his "leader" albums. Almost like having another Tina Brooks album. Quote
AndrewHill Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Here it is CJ Shearn (I'm not going to get in trouble posting this am I? Quote
BruceH Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 Jeeze, it looks like Lee Morgan is flipping someone off! Quote
blajay Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 MORE! Damn, I was trying not to spend money, but there are some in here I definitely need to grab before they go out of print. Ike Quebec 45 sessions, Fats Navarro and Tadd Dameron come to mind immediately, what else should one not pass up?! Kevin Bresnahan Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 I knew this was coming but it's still a shock to see it. All those Lee Morgan titles? Ouch. When all this is done, what *is* in print will likely be a very small list. I wonder if Amazon's "on demand" program is about to expand? Kevin Quote
ghost of miles Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Yeah, I just got this e-mail as well--what a bloodbath! Glad that I already have nearly everything that I would want on that list. Quote
AndrewHill Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Holy Crap! Time to buy, buy buy! I mean, that first list was managable, and I put everything I don't have and want on my Christmas list, but man, I don't own like 15 or so titles that I want from that second list. Quote
blind-blake Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Thanks. The only one I might be interested in that I haven't already got is the Silver, 27th man album. Anyone got any views on that? MG It's excellent. You, of all people, would love it! Quote
mikelz777 Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 I'm going to have to pick up the Lee Morgan Lighthouse set (currently $20.00 at J&R) and the Booker Little 4 and Max Roach which I didn't see on the list but was among those listed in the link from the email I got. I'm trying to keep the buying down so I'll have to limit myself to these for now. Quote
AndrewHill Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 And more Pacific Jazz titles going OOP, with what little is left in print now....great Quote
Big Al Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 BLUE NOTE RELEASES - CATALOG DELETIONS RUDY VAN GELDER REMASTERED CDs Jackie McLean - A Fickle Sonance (RVG Edition) Jackie McLean - New And Old Gospel (RVG Edition) Hank Mobley - Dippin' (RVG Edition) Lee Morgan - Tom Cat (RVG Edition) Horace Silver - You Gotta Take A Little Love (RVG Edition) Jimmy Smith - At The Organ, Volume 3 (RVG Edition) Lonnie Smith - Turning Point (RVG Edition) Art Taylor - A.T.'s Delight (RVG Edition) What's amazing is that, with the exception of A Fickle Sonance, these RVGs only came out within the last three years.
