The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 Here's another odd one I'm listening to now Della Reese - Live - ABC. With Bobby Bryant (tp), Bill Doggett (org), Gerald Wiggins (p), Herb Ellis (g), Ray Brown (b), Shelley Manne (d) MG Quote
kh1958 Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 I suppose it fits this thread--the new Oliver Lake Organ Trio recording, Makin' It, is quite enjoyable, with Jared Gold on organ, Johnathan Blake on drums. Quote

Prestige did a twofer LP of all Zoot Sims sides for Prestige, but omitted that session! Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted November 14, 2008 Author Report Posted November 14, 2008 (edited) From the obi, this appears to be an organ date!!! (Turn your head 90 degrees to the right.) Joe Henderson Meets Kankawa Jazz Time II: Blue Bossa Live 1987 <<< Amazon link I'm not aware of many organ dates with Joe, save for a couple. 'Brown Sugar' and 'Unity' -- and Charles Earland's "Leaving This Planet". Is that it?? If this wasn't so damn expensive, I'd be half tempted to pick it up. Anybody here ever heard it?? 1. Softly As In A Morning Sunrise 2. Recorda-Me 3. Stella By Starlight 4. Blue Bossa Edited November 14, 2008 by Rooster_Ties Quote

Is that it?? He and Big John Patton are on Grant Green's forgettable Am I Blue . My favorite Henderson with organ dates are Unity , Leaving This Planet and Johnny Hammond Smith's Higher Ground on Kudu . Quote

He's also made an album with Gary Bartz, which I haven't got, as well as Soul Jazz albums with Jimmy Ponder and Hiram Bullock (not together; two different albums). I'd be interested in getting that one. But it is a bit pricey from Amazon UK. Perhaps I'll see how much Hiroshi is asking. MG Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted August 18, 2009 Author Report Posted August 18, 2009 Here's some 45-second clips of the previously mentioned organ date with Joe Henderon (from 1987). Click on the Japanese text/link, just to the right of each song title. >> CLICK << Quote
DMP Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 Les McCann recorded with an organist at least 3 times on Pacific Jazz. Quote
jeffcrom Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Just finished listening to a French LP I picked up in Vancouver a few years ago: Bud Freeman - Satin Doll (All Life). Bud with George Arvanitas on organ, Pierre Michelot, and George Collier. Not inspired, but pleasant. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 I have that one. Nice pic of Bud on the cover. Quote

Mark Stryker Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Not a recording but a TV show. Jimmy Smith accompanied by -- wait for it -- Fred Astaire (!) who dances to "The Cat" in 1965. The collaboration comes at about the 5:30 mark, after a Smith trio tune and an Astaire monologue. Quote
