Milan needs Beckham like America needs Palin.

Actually Berlusconi's AC Milan doesn't need the Becks, Berlusconi's tabloids do, I suspect that there is a good job somewhere for Victoria, perhaps in one program of Berlusconi's tv channels, meanwhile italian PM (yes, Berlusconi again) has just cut off 6 billions euros for public school and universities funds.

Oh well, who cares? Becks' boys will attend private school.

Benckham is much better in what he's doing than Palin.

BG, Palin's job is to get votes for the ticket. Right now, she is the only thing that is stopping this from being a landslide.

I think it should be interesting to see. Hes doing it so that he can remain in contention for a spot on the England squad, which is understandable. Whether he can crack into Milan's starting team remains to be seen. They already have alot of good midfielders.

I haven't stayed on top of this story but I thought he was going to split his time with Milan and the Galaxy.

nope, just a 2 month loan with Milan til the MLS season starts again.

(Possibly dumb question from soccer non-expert)

One angle I saw in a news story is that Beckham wants to get high-level Euro exposure in the hopes of being selected for England again. Is this a real possibility, or just spin-doctoring? England selection seems very unlikely to me.

So now that some time has passed, what's the take on Beckham's value to U.S. soccer? Has he been worth the $$ they've given him?

I haven't followed him too much, but it seemed like he was hurt fairly often, and didn't contribute all that much. But that's mostly based upon glances at headlines. I wonder if he's increased attendance at all too.

T.D. - He's been being selected for the England squad for every match they've had in recent months, and its my understanding that he hopes to finish his international career with England at the 2010 World Cup. As the MLS has a fairly long off season (that doesn't coincide with other world leagues, by the way), he needs to continue to play in order to remain in contention for England.

Aggie - whether he's worth the $ is open to debate. As a purely financial investment, per the LA Galaxy, he's returned on their investiment, and yes, he has raised attendance considerably.
