Niko Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 (looking at the cover i find it hard to imagine how miles had originally colored it ...) Right. Wasn't this album cover design discovered in a 'black and white' format with no color? Kind of unfair to judge since we don't know what colors Reid would've used. yes, it's one of those... Quote
Free For All Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 What's so bad about that Grant Green cover? This thread has the potential to get kind of mean-spirited IMHO. Quote
BillF Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Now that's a great photo, isn't it? Quote

BruceH Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 You think this is a bad or unflattering cover? Is it the cowboy/Western garb that Rollins is sporting, or the washed-out quality of the photo? Frankly, I always loved this cover. Still do. Quote
BruceH Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 . . . and Lee Morgan has looked better. but anyway he certainly wasn't a good-looking man so maybe it's a bit unfair to post his album covers here Wha..? I always thought he was a rather handsome guy myself. Not that I'm actually physically attracted to him or anything like that. ...Not that there's anything WRONG with that. If that's who you are. Which I am not. But I'm not saying it's wrong. (I've really painted myself into a corner here.) Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Not "jazz" but I just wanted to post one of these wretched later ESP covers: Quote

Cyril Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 You think this is a bad or unflattering cover? Is it the cowboy/Western garb that Rollins is sporting, or the washed-out quality of the photo? Yep, it's the cowboy! Sonny isn't a country & western musician.... It's a great album, but I don't like that cover! Quote

It's a great album, but I don't like that cover! It's supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek play on the title, but to each his own. It strikes me as funny (in a good way.) Quote
Peter Friedman Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 This thread strikes me as rather funny. A large percentage of the album cover photos posted are ones I like quite a bit. Quote
BruceH Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Pablo always did cheap-looking covers. Quote
sheldonm Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Coltrane's Meditations is out of focus and poorly composed. I like this album cover, which gives the impression that the music therein is pretty intense, which in fact it is! I'm not sure what you mean by 'poorly composed'. Do you mean the album cover or the music? I used to throw away images like this...now I save them in hopes they will end up on a cover!!! m Quote
Chas Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 The photo and tint job suggest that one of Hampton's 'many sides' was ghoulishness ! Kind of makes you wonder if Hamp had complete artistic control over his own label . Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 While Gladys was alive, Hamp didn't control shit. Quote

martini Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 (edited) This is a bad cover and not a great photo, either: I'm not sure what the boot symbolizes, and I have no comment on the "rabbit". . . . Edited October 24, 2008 by martini Quote
