Blue Mitchell's "Graffiti Blues" gave me the idea for this thread...

I know that's not quite the original cover, but the photo is the same. Here's the original, only much bigger.

(I started another thread earlier to confirm that the pic really was of Blue, and it was). What an ugly picture -- what were they thinking???

Other JAZZ album covers with bad or unflattering pics of the musician(s) found on said records??

Has to be actual photographs -- no painted or drawn covers.

Coltrane's Meditations is out of focus and poorly composed.

I like this album cover, which gives the impression that the music therein is pretty intense, which in fact it is! I'm not sure what you mean by 'poorly composed'. Do you mean the album cover or the music?

Cover. There's half a bass and a severed arm growing out of Coltrane's back.

But I've always loved the cover of Way Out West.

I don't really care for the Sweet Honey Bee cover either. It's too barren or plain or something, and not a good color. Kind of like this one:

I agree. It's almost worthy of 32 Jazz.

i can't find the cover that bad... my copy has a stronger orange and a bluer blue though... now if they had made big john's read and the background in a nice light green... that would have been something (looking at the cover i find it hard to imagine how miles had originally colored it ...)

Right. Wasn't this album cover design discovered in a 'black and white' format with no color? Kind of unfair to judge since we don't know what colors Reid would've used.
