sheldonm Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 (edited) I had the chance to hear/see/photograph a show in LA this past weekend featuring three of the greatest living master congueros....Candido, Armando Peraza and Francisco Aguabella...along with Jack Costanzo. What a blast...sat through a panel discussion with all of them as well and managed to get them to pose together afterwards. Here are a few shots of Candido. Will post some others later if any interest. Mark~ Edited October 19, 2008 by sheldonm Quote

Adam Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Where was the concert? I completely missed it. Quote
sheldonm Posted October 17, 2008 Author Report Posted October 17, 2008 Where was the concert? I completely missed it. Hi Adam, they moved it from LA to the Newport Beach Hyatt (Jamboree Road). I think their event this coming May will be back in LA as it has the past few years. I liked this location a little better but certainly more expensive accomodations. The drive to Charlie O's for a late show was a long drive. m Quote
Adam Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Who put on the event? LA Jazz Institute? Quote
sheldonm Posted October 17, 2008 Author Report Posted October 17, 2008 Who put on the event? LA Jazz Institute? Yes...the show was called Cuban Fire....included those mentioned above plus Bud Shank, Bobby Shew, Bill Holman, Gerald Wilson and others. Shew, along with Candido's orchestral used Gil Evan's charts to do Sketches of Spain, which was nice.....Kenton's Cuban Fire was also done. Mark~ Quote
