JSngry Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 I know. I felt guilty not paying more because of that. Oh well... Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 hmmm dude i swear i saw another period cover with a blatent budwiser ad on it, definetly not this one thoygh, although i think it was also rca victor. wtf? Quote
JSngry Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Great finds or not, I don't know, but...there they were. Apparently they weren't even on the same coast when they each recorded their contributions, but...I think it's the last Bing album ever, and if there's stray bits of Lockjaw here and there, it'll be ok. The fine print shows arranged by Robert Farnon, so I was curious.Ok, not the last Bing album ever, apparently. Still, close enough. Quote
JSngry Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 No Jaws, and a pretty shitty, no, really shitty song selection overall, but...Bing & Basie together can't help but swing, it appears by the results of this record. I found myself just blocking out the "songs" altogether and just riding the groove. Quote
JSngry Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Joe Carroll I can live without, but the band is HOT! Quote
JSngry Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Only in mono. No electronically altered Pigmeat for me! Quote
Leeway Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Only in mono. No electronically altered Pigmeat for me! Saw Pigmeat Markham at the Fillmore East about 40 years ago. Can't remember who else was on the bill and am too lazy to look it up, but I hazily remember it was a strange gig that night. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Picked up a very clean white label promo (mono) of Gigi Gryce's Orch-Tette LP Reminiscin', on Mercury, for $15 yesterday night. Seemed like a reasonable price for what feels like it's going to be a great album. Quote
tjluke68 Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 That Gigi album is great; weird that it was never released on CD in the US. I recently found it too and decided to burn a copy to CD... Quote

Best I could find in London last week was a copy of 'The Flam' - but at £15 I passed. Stuck to CDs instead. Quote
Clunky Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) Red Garland Soul Junction Prestige (DG yellow label), bought at record fair today, Looked pretty dirty, cleaned up very well in the RCM, light crackle evident occasionally only, sleeve worn at edges and has split but all in all not bad for £3 . Although I did see some of his comedy routines done by white comedians in burlesque theaters about 50 years ago, when we still had burlesque theaters in Chicago. Those comedy routines were probably old even before Moses grew his beard. Quote

Sounds like the copy of 'Two Trumpets' I picked up on one occasion. A bit beat up - but at £2 for the Bergenfield I wasn't complaining. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 great .99 c. bin find:::: Jackie Gleason HOW SWEET IT IS / Capitol mono, 1966- freaking SEALED Quote
king ubu Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 I guess only the Horo really qualifies as a *great* find but most of these look like new and prices were quite alright, too, so... Dave Holland - Life Cycle (ECM) Dave Holland - The Razor's Edge (ECM) Carla Bley - Dinner Music (Watt) Carla Bley - Social Studies (Watt) Jan Garbarek - Dis (ECM) Johnny Griffin - To the Ladies (Galaxy/Carrère) Johnny Griffin - Live in Tokyo (Inner City) Lee Konitz & Martial Solal - Duplicity (Horo) Pat Metheny - Rejoicing (ECM) What about Inner City - legit? Quote
sidewinder Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 (edited) What about Inner City - legit? A US label very active in the 70s. Certainly 'legit' - they did quite a few domestic issues of the East Wind material. I've got a couple of Art Farmers on this imprint (and the sonics are suprisingly good..) king ubu Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Okay, thanks! Good to know! Best of course is, that it's a fine recording (it's spinning right now!) Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Nice finds, would love to have that Horo for the right price. Quote
king ubu Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 The Horo cost around 15$... thought that was very much okay for nice vinyl and a good looking cover (no seamsplits and such). Haven't played it yet and am still unable to talk vinyl-lingo, but I'd assume it's somewhere between NM and VG or some such... Quote
king ubu Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 today's haul: Reflexionen (Urs Leimgruber/Don Friedman/Palle Danielsson/Joel Allouche) - Remember to Remember (Enja) Thad Jones & Mel Lewis - Suite for Pops (A&M) Buck Clayton - Swingin' and Dancin' (Mode) Tommy Flanagan - Thelonica (Enja) Anthony Davis/James Newton/Abdul Wadud - I've Known Rivers (Grammavision) James Newton - James Newton (Grammavision) James Newton - Luella (Grammavision) Quote
sidewinder Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 (edited) Picked Up Elvin's 'Puttin' It Together' this afternoon. Fine nick first Liberty pressing at a very nice price. Thad Jones & Mel Lewis - Suite for Pops (A&M) I bought that when it first came out - still have it. Very 'posh' for an LP - with all of the pull out notes, sound-stage diagram for the instruments etc. Edited February 25, 2012 by sidewinder Quote
king ubu Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Yeah... I already got "Live in Munich" with similar presentation. The Pops one is a bit beat-up, alas (just the corners, really). Quote
