This happened to me on the one occasion. I came across 7 LP sets at £30-35 each and a Basie Live CD set for £45.

Original: "Mainstream 1958 East Coast Jazz Scene" on Savoy

post-3933-1222539265_thumb.jpg

Features

Wilbur Harden : Flugelhorn

Coltrane : Tenor

Tommy Flanagan : Piano

Doug Watkins : Bass

Louis Hayes : Drums

Paid $20 so not cheap, but in VG+ shape and I think fairly rare

You make me remember that i have this one, but its been years since i have not listen to it. Did not really pay attention. Forgotten on the shelves. If the women (wife and daughter) let me, i will give it a spin or two.

Von Freeman - Serenade and Blues (nessa) NM - $9.99

David Liebman - Lookout Farm (ECM - W. Germany) NM - $7.99

Essentially free though, as I traded in a bunch of classical LPs (that were given to me). I only care for solo piano works, and this was all orchestral stuff.

Chicks don't dig Wilbur Harden?

A $1.00 LP copy of Joe Venuti and Earl Hines, "Hot Sonatas" (Chiaroscuro, recorded 1975).

This was at the resumption of the Music Exchange liquidation sale in Kansas City last week. A reported 300,000 LPs and 45s are on sale for $1 each. You can't argue with the 300,000 figure--I would have guessed that there are more than 300,000.

For the total of £20 I got the following gems:

Jon Hassell/Brian Eno - Fourth World Vol.1: Possible Musics (Editions EG)

Red Garland - The Nearness of You: ballads played by... (Mono) (Jazzland)

Olivier Messiaen -Organ Works Vol. 4 - Jennifer Bate (Unicorn-Kanchana)

Bill Laswell - Baselines (Rough Trade)

Anthony Braxton - Saxophone Improvisations Series F (America)

David Bowie - Let's Dance

Carcass - Necroticism: Descanting The Insalubrious (Earache) (with limited edition postcards)

Es Herrscht Uhu Im Land - ST (Japo)

Jon Tchicai & Pierre Dorge - Ball at Louisiana, Museum of Modern Art (Steeplechase)

Also got a rare 7" by The Fall included in the price. Quite pleased to say the least.

I was at an old LP distributor recently and picked up some great SEALED LPs. My tastes run all across the board, so I found and greatly enjoy:

MAX MORATH - In Jazz Country - WITH DICK SUDHALTER

TERAMASU HINO - Live in Japan on CATALYST

NEW PAUL WHITEMAN ORCHESTRA - Monmouth/Evergreen LP - with JOHN R.T. DAVIES

TUTTI CAMARATA - Tutti's Trombones - with HERBIE HARPER, FRANK ROSOLINO, etc

plus some MUSE LPs by ERIC KLOSS and EDDIE LOCKJAW DAVIS, neither which I've had the chance to open yet.

The Music Exchange's liquidation sale continued in Kansas City for two weeks in October. I went on a day when a box of LPs went for $20. I was able to get about 80 LPs into the box, so I guess that is 25 cents each.

These included David Liebman's "Lookout Farm" and "Drum Ode", three volumes of Duke Ellington in the French RCA series, and many other worthy albums.

Art Pepper- Smack Up! Acetate press on ebay....only $150...if i was just a --little-- richer, i'd buy this up in a heartbeat!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ART-PEPPER-Smack-Up-Ex...p3286.m20.l1116

Unless the takes on this acetate are very different from the commercial issue, I don't understand the point of buying this. Guess I'm not a real "collector" then... <_<

I found an original 10 inch copy of Laurinda Almeida Quartet (w/Bud Shank) on Pacific Jazz. The cover and record are vg+ which is what really surprised me. Every ten inch record I find is so beat up that I've almost given up looking at them. I was truly shocked at how quiet the vinyl played.

The birth place of U.S. bossanova?
