kh1958 Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Lee Morgan, the Sidewinder--Japanese King reissue. Sounds rather nice. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 I got a chance to play the record and it really sounds clean. Unfortunately, I was hoping that the music was a little bit more out there, but Lacy sounded pretty constrained. Yeah, Lacy's shit didn't start getting out of hand - at least on record - until the Candid LP. Still, Soprano Sax is scarce in a clean original form. Quote
dsockel Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Lovelady by Lovey Powell on Transition. It also came with the booklet. Looks in VG+ shape. Paid US$10 for it at an antique shop. I wish it was a Cecil taylor, Donald Byrd or Doug Watkins though. Have no idea what this will sound like, but i couldn't pass it up. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Yeah, nothing wrong with having a minor title on Transition, just because... Quote

Chico Freeman - Chico Dennis Moorman - Circles of Destiny Jay Hoggard - Riverside Dance J.H. - Mystic Winds, Tropic Breezes $8 a piece. Chalupa Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 I went(finally) to a local used vinyl shop that opened up about two years ago. Chalupa Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I went(finally) to a local used vinyl shop that opened up about two years ago. Went to its other location today during my lunch hour. This place has an even better selection. The hardest part for me was deciding what not to buy. I could have easily blown $400 or $500 in there. With a lot of restraint I made it out there w/ my wallet a little lighter and the following - Jarman - Moye - Dyani - Black Paladins (Black Saint) Chico Freeman - No Time Left (BS) Chico - Kings of Mali (India Navigation) Monnette Sudler - Time for a Change (Inner City) Andrew Hill - Invitation (SteepleChase) Ornette - Soap Suds (Artist House) Lester Bowie - Phillip Wilson - Duet (Improvising Artists) As I was leaving the guy behind the counter told me that they are getting 6000 records delivered between the two stores tomorrow. Must... be... strong.... Quote

six string Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Last Saturday I went in to a little shop that sold used bits of this and that and they had a small pile of records. I found a moldy covered but minty vinyl of an album by Gato Barbieri and Dollar Brand on the Arista label. I think the album was called Confluence. I had a chance to listen to side one before retiring last night and really liked it. The vinyl's real quiet too. Maybe I'll find another copy some day with a good cover. This one has some serious water and mold damage. Oh, and it cost a whole $1.00! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 (edited) I have an Intercord Freedom of that, cost about $3. It's fantastic. Would like to have the original - think it was called "Hamba Khale" - on Togetherness Records out of Italy. Edited April 16, 2008 by clifford_thornton Quote
