clifford_thornton Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 A great day for jazz birthdays - Prince Lasha was born today back in 1929. Here is hope for continued recordings and good health! Quote
ValerieB Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time last year at Monterey! Happy, Healthy Birthday, Mr. Lasha!! Quote
sidewinder Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Happy Birthday, Prince Lasha ! 'Insight' UK CBS LP going on deck tonight. Hey Clifford - did you ever ask Lasha if he did that 60s BBC TV soundtrack session when he was living over here? Quote
JohnS Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Good health Prince Lasha. Love those Enjas particularly. Quote

sidewinder Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 It's a long shot but you never know. The particular programme I'm thinking of sure sounded like him. Sort of like a 'National Geographic' style programme with solo flute intro. Quote
clarke68 Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I saw him at Yoshi's a few weeks ago...an unexpected guest in Eddie Gale's band. Sounded great! Hope he has a happy birthday! Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Happy Birthday Prince Lasha! Quote

I'll try and find his phone number again and report back how it was... Would like to hear some of the recordings with Newk as well as the Zounds LP with Don Cherry. But that aside, all of his recordings that I am familiar with are top-notch. Insight is a desert island LP for me, as is The Cry. Quote
sheldonm Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 ...here are a couple shots I made of him at Vision Fest in nyc. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 16, 2008 Author Report Posted September 16, 2008 Those are beautiful! When I talk to him, I'll let him know that you took some nice shots of him and his baritone (he sounds so wonderful on that horn). Quote
Chalupa Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Still kicking myself for missing his Philly show a few years back. Quote
