damn - I was just about to post the entire text of War and Peace - anybody know if it's still under copyright?

In capitalist America, everything is under copyright - don't worry, someone will be there to claim the royalties.

I assume it's ok to post a link without quoting anything. Or maybe not?

I'm sure that's fine, though I agree with medjuck that a paragraph or two is often nice just to make sure it is worthwhile clicking through.

I mean how many times do you want to get Rick-rolled?

What if the poster is the author of the article?

Publications generally have guidelines about this. But basically, if someone is paying you to write for them, they may not want you to go spreading your hard work around for free. OTOH, they might quite like it if you spread links around pointing back to their publication (unless they use a crappy server because they've downsized, in which case everyone involved ends up pissed off eventually.)

In case you've missed one of the most exciting developments on the local classical music scene in years, metro Detroit finally has a contemporary music ensemble that takes no prisoners.

New Music Detroit, a cooperative group that made its debut last year, has been turning heads with its ferociously energetic and virtuoso performances of music that's almost never heard in metro Detroit -- everything from downtown idioms like minimalism and its offshoots to the gnarly experiments of the European avant-garde, free jazz, rock hybrids and eclectic post-everything music so new the ink is still wet.

If everyone can do this, it would be ultra snazzy. If you find someone not complying with the new rule, please report the post to me and the moderators. Thank you!

Please observe this forum rule. Thanks.
