paul secor Posted October 24, 2003 Report Posted October 24, 2003 I'd pick a Blue Note Session that wasn't recorded at Rudy's studio(s). In fact, Rudy wasn't even there. Ornette's second night at the Golden Circle - Dec. 4, 1965 - would be a good one to go out on. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted October 24, 2003 Report Posted October 24, 2003 Jackie McLean - Action!!!!!!!!! or Tyrone Washington - train wreck session. I'd be right there causing all the commotion. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 (edited) ...and could change it to go back in time to have it happen during any Blue Note session, right in Rudy's studio, right while the session was going down, which one would it be? At this point in time it would have to be the Turrentine gig over at Minton's. Did Rudy record anything else over there for BN? Lion was quite effusive with praise for the entire affair so I should think he would have gone back to the well, so to speak. Must have been a great place! AmirBagachelles Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Maybe standing at the bar at the Five Spot, within earshot of Miles and Mingus jeering the Coleman quartet. (More of a fly-on-the-wall wish). Lurking about the The Five Spot from early '57 til it closed the first time would've done it for me. B) Quote
king ubu Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 The Story of Blue Note: "The wierdest session was when some stranger suddenly appeared in Rudy's living room, then keeled over with a big silly grin on his face! It freaked everybody out." This almost made me burst laughing (but HELL I'm at work and nobody should know I'm on this board...) How 'bout: right after take 3 of "Un Poco Loco", or "Glass Enclosures"? "Parisian Thoroughfare"? or: Dolphy's Out To Lunch Tony Williams, Lifetime Or the christmas eve session with Miles, Monk & Bags... ubu Quote
