medjuck Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 The new Uptown Dizzy at the Spotlite cd booklet contains several photos from the film "Jivin' in Bebop". I'e seen segments of it but never the whole film. I notice that it's available from . Is it worth getting? Quote
AllenLowe Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 as I recall it's a lot of fun, especially the way Diz bumps and grinds; I wouldn't call it essential, but others may disagree - Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Any DVD (in European viewing format) of this currently available? Quote
mikeweil Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Apart from the fact that it contains a lot that's more R & B and comedy than bebop, it is a rare glimpse at the early Gillespie orchestra. Fun it is, but remember the music is not always in complete sync with the film as it was dubbed in later. I never regret I got it. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 (edited) I remember seeing it about 25 or so years ago at a London art-house cinema who were screening jazz movies as part of a season. Very lo-fi and the print was lousy but entertaining, nevertheless ! Yep, quite a lot of comedy interludes in it, as I recall. Edited August 12, 2008 by sidewinder Quote
Jeff Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 You can obtain the Jivin' in Bebop DVD on Amazon.com for a very good price. I also saw one on eBay for $1.00. The Blue Moon CD of Jivin' in Bebop is currently going for $40 on Amazon. Quote
