EKE BBB Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 (edited) I am trying the establish the exact itinerary of Tete Montoliu's US/Canadian/Mexican tour of March-April, 1980. If any member has February, March, April and/or May, 1980 issues of US jazz magazines (Jazztimes, Downbeat, whichever), I'd be very grateful if he could check concert/festival listings and reviews for me. Itinerary - March&April 1980: (trio or piano solo concerts unless otherwise noted) -Baltimore (Fell's Point), Bandstand (March 6&7). Other sources also mention March 5 -Washington DC, One Step (prob. March 14&15) -Hartford, Al Casasanta's (March 16) -Boston, Alfred Morse Auditorium (March 17). Issued on SteepleChase disc -New York, Village Gate, Top of the Gate (March 20-22) -New York, (March 22). Recording session for Steeplechase disc "I Wanna Talk About You" with Hank Mobley -Kansas City (Lawrence), Paul Gray's Jazz Place (March 24) -Mexico (reportedly for one week) -Hermosa Beach, Lighthouse (April 1-6) -San Francisco, Keystone Korner (April 8-13). With Pony Poindexter -Miramar, California, Bach Dancing Dynamite Society (April 13) -Santa Cruz, Kuumbwa Jazz Center (April 14) -Oregon -Vancouver, Café New York (April 17-19) -Calgary, Glenbow Museum Theatre (April 20) -Edmonton, Centennial Library Theatre (April 21) -Saskatoon, Holiday Inn (April 23). Two sets as a soloist and one set accompanied by local musicians -Seattle, Parnell's (April 24) Please, post here or send email to ekebbbapg@yahoo.es Thanks in advance! jazztrain Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Augustin: I can supply a copy of the review of the Morse Auditorium concert from the Boston Globe if you want or need it. I am trying the establish the exact itinerary of Tete Montoliu's US/Canadian/Mexican tour of March-April, 1980. If any member has February, March, April and/or May, 1980 issues of US jazz magazines (Jazztimes, Downbeat, whichever), I'd be very grateful if he could check concert/festival listings and reviews for me. Suggested itinerary (known exact dates as written): -Baltimore -Washington DC -NY, Village Gate (March 13-15 or 20-22) -Boston, Alfred Morse Auditorium (March 17) -Kansas City -Mexico (1 week) -San Francisco -Santa Cruz -Hermosa Beach, Lighthouse (April 1-6) -Oregon -Canada -Seattle, Parnell's (April 24) Please, post here or send email to ekebbbapg@yahoo.es Thanks in advance! EKE BBB Posted May 28, 2015 Author Report Posted May 28, 2015 After several years of intermittent research, still strugglin' to complete the itinerary of Montoliu's stay in the US in 1980. Any help is much appreciated. Quote
Hot Ptah Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 I have the Down Beat and Jazz Times issues from that 1980 time period, but they contain no information about this tour. These magazines were not comprehensive guides to everything going on in the world of jazz at that time--to say the least! Quote
EKE BBB Posted May 28, 2015 Author Report Posted May 28, 2015 What I have been able to document so far is: -Boston, Alfred Morse Auditorium (March 17) -NY, Village Gate (probably March 20-22). On March 22 --> recording for SteepleChase with Hank Mobley -Hermosa Beach, Lighthouse (April 1-6) -San Francisco, Keystone Korner (April 8-13) -El Granada, CA, Bach Dancing Dynamite Society (April 13) -Santa Cruz, CA, Kuumba Jazz Center (April 14) -Seattle, Parnell's (April 24) Reportedly, these are additional dates in the US, Mexico and Canada: -Kansas City-Baltimore-Washington DC-Oregon-Canada (Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary)-Mexico (1 week) I have the Down Beat and Jazz Times issues from that 1980 time period, but they contain no information about this tour. These magazines were not comprehensive guides to everything going on in the world of jazz at that time--to say the least! Thanks for your reply. So not any reference in the club listings? Quote

I will look again at those issues and make sure about that. Also, as to the Kansas City concert, my company subscribes to the Kansas City newspaper's archives, and I will run a search in 1980. If the concert was reported in the newspaper, I should be able to find some information. Quote
