Guest ariceffron Posted October 21, 2003 Report Posted October 21, 2003 DETROIT (Reuters) - A Michigan judge has written a rap-inspired poem to explain why hip-hop superstar Eminem (news - web sites) didn't take the rap for slander. Reuters Photo Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Deborah Servitto dismissed a case against Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, last Friday. It had been filed by Deangelo Bailey, who sued over lyrics in the song "Brain Damage" on Eminem's highly popular "The Slim Shady Album." In the song Eminem says Bailey harassed him and beat him up daily when they were kids at the same elementary school. In her poem, excerpts of which were published in Tuesday's editions of the Detroit Free Press, Servitto said Eminem broke no laws with his song about Bailey. "The lyrics are stories no one would take as fact/They're an exaggeration of a childish act," she wrote. "Any reasonable person could clearly see/That the lyrics could only be hyperbole." Quote
AfricaBrass Posted October 21, 2003 Report Posted October 21, 2003 That's a funny judge! Could you imagine if this plaintiff would have won. It would be open season on getting sued by bullies for beating you up as a kid. I could just see the ACLU talking about bullies rights. Quote
Shrdlu Posted October 21, 2003 Report Posted October 21, 2003 Here's a funny court ruling that WAS made by the judge. In England, a guy was fined after a roadside random safety check on his car discovered that his windshield washer fluid reservoir was empty. He got three points on his license! Tut, tut! What a road menace! Quote

What a road menace! Wow! That's pretty harsh. I don't think most California drivers would do well in England. We can barely drive out here let alone refill our windshield wiper fluid. You'd be amazed at the number of BMWs I've seen driving down the street with the gas pump nozzle still in the car (3). Quote
