felser Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Listening to Tyrone Washington's 1967 Blue Note set, 'Natural Essence' on headphones. Joe Chambers is mind-blowing on this! I always knew he was really good, but seems to be on a whole other level on this one. Maybe it's just my Friday afternoon mood, but he, Barron, and Workman are one amazing rhythm section with Washington and Woody Shaw here. Quote

I agree, but sadly it's hard to tell on my LP, which never sounded even decent (the pressing no doubt). A RVG remaster would be lovely. Quote
Michael Weiss Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 One of my alltime favorite BNs. Quote
Late Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 We've been talking about this record (on the BN board and now here) for ten years! (This is not a bad thing, mind you.) The TOCJ of this sounds pretty good to my ears. I haven't spun it in a while, and now I'll do so with Chambers in mind. I've always been a bit bothered by how Washington is seemingly off-mike for most of the session. I wonder if he swung his horn a lot when he played. Quote
