J.A.W. Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 The Gerald Wilson Mosaic set is now running low. Quote
John L Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 A unique body of work that is very much of its time. It is very nice to have it under one roof, inconsistencies, commercial compromises, and all. I love this box. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 10 Lp's worth of material, and 9 are top drawer in my book. Don't pass this one over, folks. Quote
blajay Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 Somebody, please, tell me something bad about it before my mouse gives way... Quote
JSngry Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Somebody, please, tell me something bad about it before my mouse gives way... "Wilson" begins with "W", so if you file vertically, it's gonna be a pain in the ass to get to. Quote
Tony Pusey Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 If you only buy one Mosaic this year on Runnin low, because you were unfamilier with the contents beforehand then this should be the one. Essentail. Quote

jazzbo Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Consider it. There is about an hour that. . . I probably won't listen to again for a looooonnnnngggg time. But much great music. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 (edited) shucks, I still need this one... Flurin - this is one that you MUST get. Yes, I know that applies to all Mosaics. But this one more than most. Believe it ! Beg, steal or borrow. Or raid the gnomes of Zurich.. Edited August 1, 2008 by sidewinder Quote

But this one more than most. Believe it ! Beg, steal or borrow. Or raid the gnomes of Zurich.. holy holy... sounds like I need it badly! I'm in a bit of a stupid situation here, an organ-hating friend got it and was a bit dis-pleased first, so I said I'd buy it from him, but by now he seems to have kind of grown to it... guess I better order one myself, eventually. AmirBagachelles Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Organ or did you mean Morgan? And how much of either or both does the set contain? And any cowbell? Cuz that would clinch it for me. fyi, I'm looking for improv-cowbell. I should check the Aaron Copland LPs at the library. I bet those have organ and cowbell, no Morgan though. See you all at the Mosaic checkout counter, seriously I have been totally wigged that the Wilson was going to slip by on me, glad I saw this thread. thanks Quote
sidewinder Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 If my memory is right, there's only about half a CDs worth of organ in any case - the session with Groove Holmes. Quote
ASNL77 Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Just ordered it! Difficult to resist once you have read the reviews posted on the Mosaic website and here. Went for surface shipping. Not sure what to expect as it is the first time I go for this option. Hopefully the parcel will be here before the set goes OOP. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 I love wandering in to these "running low" threads knowing I already own the set in question! Quote

My Bix/Trumbauer/Tea is going this route too. Chances are it will go US Air Mail anyway. -_- I think you'll enjoy the Gerald Wilson. I pre-ordered this one and have never regretted it ! Even though I have most of it also on the 'black stuff'. Quote
Soul Stream Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 I love how on the Organissimo bulletin board...the stumbling block for getting the set to some is that it has organ on it... Quote
J Larsen Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Man, the chasm between the best and worst of this set is immense. It ranges from sublime to downright embarrassing. But the best of it justifies purchasing before it disappears. Quote

That's how it seems to me, just based on reviews and word of mouth... which is why I'd rather purchase individual albums when I can find them. Quote

J Larsen Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 That is a reasonable choice, depending on how easily you think you can find the individual albums. But I also have to say that there seems to be quite a bit of variability within certain sessions. Quote
