sidewinder Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 maybe this time they'll tune the piano - I always thought that was part of the charm of this session. Certainly adds to the live atmosphere ! Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 Also, Blue Note did make a point of putting Dolphy's name on the cover of the recent Mingus Live at Cornell set, so clearly his name has some currency. Yeah, from what I understand, some folks have heard of him. No shit Sherlock. Thanks for the contribution. Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 p.s. is Andorra EU? Andorra is not a full member of the European Union, but has a special relationship with it. Ah - OK. Never quite been sure. A special relationship such that regulations concerning copyright have 'Direct Effect'? Quote
Niko Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 p.s. is Andorra EU? Andorra is not a full member of the European Union, but has a special relationship with it. Ah - OK. Never quite been sure. A special relationship such that regulations concerning copyright have 'Direct Effect'? maybe i am overlooking something here... but if andorra had a different copyright legislation from the EU until now (btw, do we know this for certain?) why should this change just because the EU change their legislation... Dave James Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 I thought Andorra was the mother on Bewitched - I think we need to take Allen to the woodshed for unseemly post count enhancement. Up over and out. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 With reprogramming, all the material could fit on 2 "full" cds. If I owned the stuff, I'd issue 3 discs with the original covers and extras - 50+ minutes each and preserve the covers and sequence. Quote
Late Posted July 25, 2008 Author Report Posted July 25, 2008 Anyone here bought the UCCO Japanese editions of these discs? The VICJ's are harder to come by ... Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 maybe this time they'll tune the piano - In 10 or 15 years I'm betting they'll have the technology to actually do this. (And I'm only half kidding.) Quote
jazzbo Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Vol. 2 is coming out as an RVG June 2. Quote
Kyo Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Vol. 2 is coming out as an RVG June 2. LMAO! Well, they certainly shouldn't complain about low sales numbers. To re-release an album with a playtime of just over 37 minutes when there is so much material available that they could add to it is really laughable. Quote

Ditto to that and I'll raise it, it's totally fucking stupid. :tophat: Quote
jazzbo Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 I'm going to buy it though, because Vol. 1 sounds so good. Best I've heard the material which is material I listen to often enough to warrant it. I'm totally fucking stupid I guess. Quote

No, but I do believe without you the entire re-issue market would implode, even more than it already has. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 Nah. There's a market for these classic titles that go beyond me. . . . I'm just a leaf on the wind. Quote

(And I'm only half kidding.) I would certainly not buy a tuned version. I think that the piano that Mal was playing mayhave actually inspired him for that date. My out of tune ears love it! D) Quote
JSngry Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 Hell, if technology gets that far along, I just as soon they turn it into and out-of-tune B-3 and fuck everybody up. Quote

The entirety of the "Memorial Album" is added to the RVG of "Volume 2", as bonus tracks. Quote
bertrand Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 But there will still be a couple of orphan tracks, correct? I believe a solo 'God Bless The Child' is one of them. Bertrand. Quote
Filthy McNasty Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 (edited) But there will still be a couple of orphan tracks, correct? I believe a solo 'God Bless The Child' is one of them. Bertrand. No idea, wouldn't surprise me. Just reporting what I see on the copy I just picked up, that it's not the 37 minutes suggested, but 67+. Edited to remove unintended snippiness. bertrand Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Below is what jazzdisco.org has to say on this session. I believe all of this was in the Dolphy box. 1) Are there any tracks from this date that are usable that were not in the box? 2) Which tunes are not on the two volumes of the RVG? I'll check track listings later at CD universe. Bertrand. Booker Little (tp -1,2,4/11) Eric Dolphy (as, bcl, fl) Mal Waldron (p -1,2,4/11) Richard Davis (b -1,2,4/11) Ed Blackwell (d -1,2,4/11) "Five Spot Cafe", NYC, July 16, 1961 1. 3146 warming up and tuning Prestige rejected 2. 3147 Status Seeking Prestige PR 7382 3. 3148 God Bless' The Child - 4. 3149 Aggression Prestige PRLP 7294, P 34002 5. 3150 Like Someone In Love - 6. 3151 Fire Waltz New Jazz NJLP 8260; Prestige P 34002 7. 3152 Bee Vamp - 8. - Bee Vamp (alt. take) Prestige PR 24046, MPP 2517; Fantasy OJCCD 133-2 9. 3153 The Prophet New Jazz NJLP 8260; Prestige P 34002 10. 3154 Number Eight (Potsa Lotsa) Prestige PR 7334, P 34002 11. 3155 Booker's Waltz - Quote
bertrand Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Looked it up at CD Universe. RVG Volume 1 Fire Waltz Bee Vamp The Prophet Bee Vamp (alternate take) RVG Volume 2 Agression Like Someone In Love Number Eight (Potsa Lotsa) Booker's Waltz So 'Status Seeking' and 'God Bless The Child' are missing. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Bertrand. Quote
Filthy McNasty Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 So 'Status Seeking' and 'God Bless The Child' are missing. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Bertrand. Very weird, both from the point of view of the consumer and Concord. I picked up Vol.2 because I didn't own it (or Memorial Album) at all. I passed on Vol. 1 because I already have the K2. Had they added those two tracks, I (and I presume many others) would have upgraded. Bizarre... and inept. Quote
Swinging Swede Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Concord is clueless. We have seen many examples of that since they took over the Fantasy catalogue. Quote
