felser Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I was listening to Andrew Cyrille's Metamusicians' Stomp CD this morniing, and was blown away by the work of the bassist, Nick DiGeronimo. Reminds me of Reggie Workman, great double stops in his playing and very lyrical. I'm not otherwise familiar with DiGeronimo, and can't really find anything on him on allmusic. Can anyone give me any thoughts or info on him? The music on the CD was recorded in 1978 in Milano (It's a Black Saint CD, with Cyrille, DiGeronimo, Ted Daniel and David S. Ware). Quote
tkeith Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) He's also on Special People (same quartet), and shines on that as well. I don't know if him on anything else off the top of my head, and neither does allmusic.com This just in, he also shows up on AC's THE NAVIGATOR. You might drop by Andrew Cyrille's page and drop him a line for more information. Edited July 19, 2008 by Thom Keith Quote
CPC Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 Does anyone have any info in Nick DiGeronimo? I was listening to a him on a Cyrille recording and a little bit of googling didn't turn up much. He's a fine player but seems to only have recorded with Maono and that's it. He's on a recording from the Willisau Jazz Festival 1978 and Cyrille introduces him and says he met him through Nick's brother, a drummer and that they are from New Jersey. Anyone? Thanks, carville Quote
Dick Bowman Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 Was thinking along similar lines a couple of weeks ago - he seemed to arrive fully-formed and disappear just as abruptly when the Cyrille Maono quartet ceased. Definitely saw him in the flesh and it's not a case of someone better-known working under a pseudonym. Quote

carville Posted April 30, 2024 Report Posted April 30, 2024 https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/2375908/nicholas-martin-di-geronimo,-sr. Was doing some research today and stumbled across this obituary. Sad, 3 records and a handful of unreleased live recordings is all we have by him. It's great to see another photo of him. Has anyone further information or recordings? Quote
