stuartjewkes Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I don't own a Mosaic yet but I will be rectifying that with the Braxton set. I am incredibly excited about it! Quote
jasonguthartz Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Question: I only have info for one LP release of Time Zones: Arista AL 1037. Anyone know if this was ever released on vinyl on the actual Freedom label (as was The Complete Braxton 1971), or was it only released on vinyl via Arista's licensing arrangement? Bruyninckx says Arista AL1037 = Freedom/Intercord (G)147304 = Freedom (Jap)PA-6079 Thanks, Chuck! Quote
felser Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 (edited) The Akiyoshi will find a nice home on the shelves in the Felser household. If Mosaic has access to the Freedom stuff issued on Arista, they could make nice Selects on Archie Shepp and Randy Weston with a little stretching, or maybe a set on the recording that Freedom did at the Montreux Festival in 1974 and 1975 (at least Weston featuring Billy Harper in '74 and Shepp in '75, I don't know who else). In fact there were a lot of really interesting Arista Freedom releases (and a lot of tedious ones also, but even those were outside the box and of historic value). Chuck Nessa Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 They don't currently have access to the Freedom/Black Lion catalog. Dream on............ Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 (edited) and Roland Hanna and Earl Hines. Must be more that have dropped out of my head. Edit to add Jay McShann. Edited July 21, 2008 by Chuck Nessa Quote
ASNL77 Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 Did I dream about an upcoming Three Sounds Mosaic set or is it in the offing? I remember reading something here but I can't remember if that was somebody's wish or the confirmation that Mosaic was planning to release a Three Sounds set. Quote
jasonguthartz Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Correct. It was a Freedom recording, now owned by DA. That's what I thought, but how'd they get to 14? This 8-CD set rescues his entire 14-LP Arista output from forgotten vaults. Couple of beads get stuck together on their abacus? Mosaic has corrected their description of the Braxton box - not 14 LPs, but 13: The 13 LPs are: Arista AL-4032 New York, Fall 1974 - 1 LP Arista AL-4064 Five Pieces, 1975 - 1 LP Arista AL-4080 Creative Orchestra Music 1976 - 1 LP Arista AL-4101 Duets 1976 - 1 LP Arista AB-4181 For Trio - 1 LP Arista AL-5002 The Montreux/Berlin concerts - 2 LPs Arista A2L-8602 Alto Saxophone Improvisation 1979 - 2 LPs Arista A3L-8900 For Four Orchestras - 3 LPs Arista AL-9559 For Two Pianos - 1 LP And DMG is reporting that no unreleased material will be included. GregK Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 so what about The Complete Braxton then? Not included? Where can I get it if it won't be in this box? Quote

J.A.W. Posted August 11, 2008 Author Report Posted August 11, 2008 (edited) Mosaic's Scott Wenzel just told me that the Oscar Peterson set will be up for pre-order in about a week and a half, the Akiyoshi/Tabackin set in about a month. Edited August 12, 2008 by J.A.W. Quote
J.A.W. Posted August 12, 2008 Author Report Posted August 12, 2008 According to Scott Wenzel the Braxton set will be up for pre-order in about a month or a little later. Quote
J.A.W. Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 Mosaic's Scott Wenzel told me that, as things stand, the Braxton, Goodman and Akiyoshi/Tabackin sets will be up for pre-order at the end of September 2008. Quote
blajay Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Did I dream about an upcoming Three Sounds Mosaic set or is it in the offing? I remember reading something here but I can't remember if that was somebody's wish or the confirmation that Mosaic was planning to release a Three Sounds set. Here is what Mosaic told me, "We laid out a Three Sounds (1958-62) and it was 10 CDs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So we have to figure something else out." Quote
Stefan Wood Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 They could break it up. They did that for Johnny Hodges on Verve. Quote
gmonahan Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 They could break it up. They did that for Johnny Hodges on Verve. Wish they'd finish that series out. Lots of great Hodges on Verve from the 60s needs to be reissued. Greg Mo Quote
