Upcoming Mosaic sets, August - November 2008

I don't own a Mosaic yet but I will be rectifying that with the Braxton set. I am incredibly excited about it!

Question: I only have info for one LP release of Time Zones: Arista AL 1037. Anyone know if this was ever released on vinyl on the actual Freedom label (as was The Complete Braxton 1971), or was it only released on vinyl via Arista's licensing arrangement?

Bruyninckx says Arista AL1037 = Freedom/Intercord (G)147304 = Freedom (Jap)PA-6079

The Akiyoshi will find a nice home on the shelves in the Felser household. If Mosaic has access to the Freedom stuff issued on Arista, they could make nice Selects on Archie Shepp and Randy Weston with a little stretching, or maybe a set on the recording that Freedom did at the Montreux Festival in 1974 and 1975 (at least Weston featuring Billy Harper in '74 and Shepp in '75, I don't know who else). In fact there were a lot of really interesting Arista Freedom releases (and a lot of tedious ones also, but even those were outside the box and of historic value).

Did I dream about an upcoming Three Sounds Mosaic set or is it in the offing? I remember reading something here but I can't remember if that was somebody's wish or the confirmation that Mosaic was planning to release a Three Sounds set.

Correct. It was a Freedom recording, now owned by DA.

Mosaic has corrected their description of the Braxton box - not 14 LPs, but 13:

Mosaic's Scott Wenzel just told me that the Oscar Peterson set will be up for pre-order in about a week and a half, the Akiyoshi/Tabackin set in about a month.

Here is what Mosaic told me, "We laid out a Three Sounds (1958-62) and it was 10 CDs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So we have to figure something else out."

Wish they'd finish that series out. Lots of great Hodges on Verve from the 60s needs to be reissued.
