Critic/musicologist Daniel Caux passed away last week in Paris.

Caux was one of the most energetic supporter of freejazz. He helped organize concerts by Cecil Taylor, Albert Ayler, Sun Ra and others at the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul de Vence on the French Riviera. As a producer with the record company Shandar he put out recordings of Maeght Foundation concerts.

His enthusiasm and openness to music are being missed!

The Francois Tusques/Sunny Murray material needs a reissue - hell, it'd fit on one disc!

That Guitars Derive is really nice, too, in the pantheon of obscure minimal-music recordings.

The Dashiell Hedayat/Gong thing was also put out on CD. But without the nice, textured cover of the orig.
