Bol Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 I'd appreciate any reactions. This set seems like it could be really really good, or really really boring. Quote
papsrus Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 I've held off on this one for now. But the few reviews I've read have been quite positive. Quote
randyhersom Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Hoping it shows on eMusic soon. Most, but not all Clean Feed releases do. Still missing the James Finn. Quote
Nate Dorward Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) Either Mary Halvorson or Kevin O'Neil (where's he been lately, anyway?). Edited July 4, 2008 by Nate Dorward Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) I think Halvorsen is totally wonderful with the new trio. A few years ago, but I really like John Shiurba as well on the Ratascan GTM box. Edited July 4, 2008 by Red Quote
7/4 Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 I think all three of those guitars players are interesting...Morris is the most interesting of the three. . Quote
Larry Kart Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 I can't say I'm nearly as excited by the idea as I'd be w/Tony's regular guitarist-- you know the one, the name eludes as my lust rises, sorry. Assuming that Mary Halverson is the guitarist in question, you're what sex again, Chauncey? Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Chauncy's out on the road with Elmer Calloway and can't reply: reed trouble. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Chauncey, can you regale us with a report on the Ellington Jazz Party session? I know you played on some tunes. Quote
7/4 Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Honestly, Halverson is the one who I need to hear more of. . Quote
AllenLowe Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 oh, go eat fecal matter and than expire - Quote
7/4 Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 just doesn't have the same effect when you phrase it like that. . Quote
AllenLowe Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 well, I'm impersonating Gould as Cosmo Topper - Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 Honestly, Halverson is the one who I need to hear more of. . She's great. The duo with Weasel Walter is very much worth checking out. And yes, CM, the Braxton/Morris duo is something really special. I haven't listened to a ton of Morris' records but the ones I've heard, I've thought were good. Regardless, in this setting he is very, very open and their give-and-take is surprisingly subtle. The first and fourth discs really set my hair on end. If you really want my opinion, you'll have to check out Paris Transatlantic in late August. Quote
