ValerieB Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 apparently of a heart attack this morning (Tues.). Quote
Free For All Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 What?? Dave Carpenter the bassist? Wow, that's horrible news! I was on the road with him for quite awhile. I am so sorry to hear this. What a MF drag. Dave was a great guy and a great musician. And too young to be gone already. Damn, this sucks. RIP, Carp. Quote
marcello Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 (edited) Sad news, of course. That's Dave of the left with Joe Locke, Gary Novak and Tommy Smith in Italy a few years ago. Edited June 25, 2008 by marcello Quote
Free For All Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 (edited) I last saw him at a concert featuring the orchestral compositions of Vince Mendoza. He was in the core group (set up in the middle of the strings) with Alan Pasqua, John Abercrombie, Bob Sheppard and Peter Erskine. It was a fantastic concert. I am so sad to hear about this. Carp was a MF. Edited June 25, 2008 by Free For All Quote
Bluerein Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 What a loss to the jazz world. I've just bought some trio cd's with Erskine and Pasqua. They will get a well deserved spinn later today. RIP Dave..... Quote
Tom Storer Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 Awful news. A fine bassist who played in many different contexts. RIP. Quote
7/4 Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 That's shocking...only 48. RIP hey, I'm 48! Quote
mikeweil Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 Shocking ..... I thought he was pretty good when I heard him on Andy Summers' Monk CD. R.I.P. Quote
Julie Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Hi folks. I registered here just because I learned of Dave's death tonight and when my husband, an old friend of Dave's, went online after learning of his death to hear Dave play, we came across some forums and it seemed as if people were looking for some answers. According to my husband's parents--who are best friends with Dave's parents and called here tonight with the news--Dave actually had a heart attack last week. He was hospitalized for a time and then released. The night Dave had a second heart attack, his wife had sent him outside to do an errand and she then fell asleep. The next day, she found Dave outside dead. One of the causes of the heart attack(s) appears to be cocaine. Dave had a problem with it, had quit for a time, but then went back to it. (He had an older brother, Doug, who also had a problem with cocaine and who died when he was either 22 or 23.) To all who may read this and are religious, please pray for Dave's family . . . especially his mother who was nearly ruined when Doug died. Quote
Free For All Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Thanks for the information, Julie. I'm so sorry to hear about Dave's passing, and will keep his friends and family in my thoughts.. Quote
