paul secor
Don't care about influence - only about what moves me. Much of what Django played does that - very little of what Zawinul played does it for me.
7/4
I think he meant that Wayne was just "crazy", and that's far from a unique observation. I just wish I could be that kind of crazy... Maybe his social skill are kinda strange...the interviews I have read - not many - give me that impression.

7/4
Okay, if not Zawinul, who? Derek Bailey or Allan Holdsworth. Wait a second...those guys are English. Do they count as European?
BillF
Okay, if not Zawinul, who? Derek Bailey or Allan Holdsworth. Wait a second...those guys are English. Do they count as European? Well, we're certainly not in Asia, Africa or America here! And my passport has "European Union" and "United Kingdom" on it. 7/4
Well, we're certainly not in Asia, Africa or America here! And my passport says "Citizen of the European Union". Thanks, I wasn't too sure. So Bailey...one of the fathers of Free Improvisation (is it Jazz?) and Holdsworth...his own style of guitar playing, less and less "fusion", more Jazz every year. The Magnificent Goldberg
In addition, there are heaps of people responsible for the "great American songbook", such as Irving Berlin, who were European. MG
Stereojack
In addition, there are heaps of people responsible for the "great American songbook", such as Irving Berlin, who were European. MG Technically, maybe. Berlin was born in Russia, and came to the US when he was five. All of the songs were written in the US.
