user0815 Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 This game could very well be the best game of the competition, expect other thrills in the second half. Fascinating first half meanwhile. much more aggressive playin' from the german team ... looks good so far ! :rsmile: but ... the portuguese team is still very dangerous ... i just hope the german team has still enough power for the second half Quote
Van Basten II Posted June 19, 2008 Author Report Posted June 19, 2008 Second half was a little subpar compared to the 1st, expected Portugal to come out stronger at the start. If i were picky, would say that Ballack goal was due to a push Anyway Germans deserved it. Quote
Swinging Swede Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 As Gary Lineker said, in the end Germany always wins. However, the 3-1 goal should not have been allowed since Ballack pushed away the defender before he headed the ball. Quote
sidewinder Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 A few too many wide shots over the bar by Portugal - they played with great flair though. In the end, outwitted and out-gunned by the Germans ! Quote

Maybe, but if I were the portugese defender I'd not be moved by the light push of Ballack, I mean I wouldn't have left a guy like Ballack to hit the ball, I'd commit a faul instead. I saw it as one of the many mistakes of Portugal's defence. Edited June 19, 2008 by porcy62 Quote

Van Basten II Posted June 20, 2008 Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 Tomorrow is going to be an intriguing one, although with the injuries and the suspensions, pretty tough not to pick Croatia. Don't you think instead of making the winners of the games between Group A and B to play against each other once again with the strong chance that teams meet again for the second time , they should have mixed them up like the winner of Germany-Portugal meeting the winner of Netherlands-Russia instead of the winner of Croatia-Turkey. If you have to play again the same team in such a short competition might as well be in the final Quote

Van Basten II Posted June 20, 2008 Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 It's one of those bad games that are so bad that they are good, how many chances did Croatia miss ? Quote
Van Basten II Posted June 20, 2008 Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) Should put these teams out of their misery and go already with penality kicks. Edited June 20, 2008 by Van Basten II Quote
Van Basten II Posted June 20, 2008 Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 Holly shit, Turks did it again Quote
Brad Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) What an amazing last two minutes. Rustu screws up and they save his butt. The next few minutes should be "interesting." Edited June 20, 2008 by Brad Quote
Swinging Swede Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 What a crazy finish. Unbelievable. By the way, so far it's the group winners who have been eliminated. Quote

porcy62 Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Though the turkish will be short of players, they will be mentally loaded for the match with Germany that could turn into a fierce fight. If I were Low I wouldn't be such happy, I'd have prefer Croatia. Quote
Brad Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 So far, I'm 0 for 2 in predictions. Doesn't bode well for my team Quote
Van Basten II Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 Very fine half of futbol, if this was a boxing match, i'd score it 10-9 Russia. However it's going to be decided by a knockout. Quote
Van Basten II Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud Quote
Van Basten II Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 (edited) Bummer Gotta say that Russians deserved it overall, weren't they supposed to be weak on defense ? At least, we avoided the agony of penality kicks. If i were Spain, i'd be scared as hell, no team that finished first has won so far. Edited June 21, 2008 by Van Basten II Quote
Swinging Swede Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Right, three of three group winners have been eliminated so far. Perhaps it wasn't such a great idea to rest the best players in the third group match after all. What a fantastic team the Russians have morphed into. They fully deserved the victory. Suddenly Sweden's loss against Russia doesn't look so bad any longer. Quote
Brad Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Although the Russians deserved the victory, the Dutch never seemed into it or out of sorts or something. The team never seemed right, certainly not the team from the group stage. 0 for 3, uh, oh! Quote
user0815 Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 (edited) wow! now that's a real surprise! russia in half-final, the netherlands are out ... i really didn't expect that outcome ... then again the netherlands already have a history of playin' attractive football and in the end winnin' only the "golden ananas" ... maybe there really is somethin' like the risk of peakin' too early in the tournament? Edited June 22, 2008 by user0815 Quote
