Stan Getz: "Sweet Rain" and "Plays"

I am currently in a Stan Getz fever and trying to purchase some Cds I do not have... by the way it would be magnificent Mosaic to compile a Getz Complete at Verve box...

So, for now here they are:

1. "Stan Getz plays":

-there is a CD issued in 1988 (cheaply available in Europe) with 5 bonus tracks.

-then there is a japanese SACD (hybrid) issued in 2004 available from japan for 3200 yen and from USA for $57; this one has the original 11 tracks

-then there is another one from japan issued in 2007 (SHM-CD) approx for $41

and finally various japanese releases which are not available at the stores I looked.

If the first release was more recent I would not hesitate. But now I cannot decide; I would spend to get a recent release as above if it offered better sound. Could you please assist me?

2. "Sweet Rain"

-there is a japanese reissue available

-and it seems that in June will be released internationally by Verve as Remastered (perhaps part of the recent Originals series):

Your message caused me to pull out the 1988 cd. It is playing now and sounds fine. I'd say save your money and enjoy the extra tracks.

Not all older cds sound bad. With Verve, you've got a decent chance IMO...

The 1983 American issue does not have any bonus tracks. Don't know about the Japanese issue.

The 1988 CD issue is the only one with the extra tracks. It was mastered by Dennis Drake and it sounds very nice. There's absolutely no need for an "upgrade", on the contrary, in my opinion this is the best version around. The music is wonderful.

"Sweet Rain" is a great album! I'm glad I was able to track a copy down.

"Plays" is great, too.

The 1988 edition of Plays just showed up in my mailbox today. I'm on my third spin through. Along with The Soft Swing and the Roost box, I can now say this is one of my favorite Getz recordings. Getz seemed to hit an almost magical zone during these years (approx. '52-'54).
