CJ Shearn Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) I just came home with my 2nd copy of Trane's "Ascension", and for the 2nd time in a row it appears "Edition I", in the last two minutes, skips and will not play through to the end, it pretty much cuts off during Elvin's pressroll. I've tried it in multiple players. Is this among the problems Impulse! never fixed among Trane reissues? Edited May 22, 2008 by CJ Shearn Quote
CJ Shearn Posted May 22, 2008 Author Report Posted May 22, 2008 ok, apparently it won't play properly in a CD or DVD drive in the computer, thankfully it does in an regular player. Quote
Nate Dorward Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 I think the problem is that it's longer than 80 minutes so some CD players won't read it. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 It is usually the last few minutes of the disc giving players a "test". Never had the single disc version so I can't help you with the issue at hand. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted May 23, 2008 Author Report Posted May 23, 2008 thanks Chuck. Windows media player says 79 minutes but I thought it was longer than that. Has anyone else had a similar problem with this disc? Quote
Claude Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) Has anyone else had a similar problem with this disc? Has anyone listened to this to the end? I don't have this CD, as I have the "Major works ..." 2CD box set. At the time (in the 90s), 80min CDs also had an increased risk of disc manufacturing defects. I don't know if it's still the case today. The Ascension CD is 79:26, was released in 2000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascension_(album) Edited May 23, 2008 by Claude Quote
