In the last few days:

Woody Shaw - Master of the Art (despite the naysayers, I think this is a terrific recording - both Woody and Steve Turre are in great form - seems to me Woody himself didn't like this session - as often happened, he was being too hard on himself).

Lee Morgan - The Rahjah

Danny D'Imperio - Big Band Bloviation

Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Mosaic

Mark Masters Jazz Orchestra - Priestess (great Billy Harper on this)

Miles Davis - Someday My Prince Will Come

Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain

Billy Bang - Vietnam The Aftermath

Kid Ory - Creole Classics

Harold Mabern - Joyspring

Up for the weekend: Wayne Shorter - The All-Seeing Eye (naturally)

Posted

Albert King - "The Pinch" (sadly, retitled as "The Blues Don't Change" )

Albert King - "Let me Play for You"

Wayne Shorter - "The All-Seeing Eye"

Isaac Hayes - "Black Moses"

And a few others in preparation for choosing week after next's Album of the Week!!!

That's a drag, but you've got a couple days left. Actually, you have as long as you want. I look forward to your review. :rsmile:

Peter,

I look forward to your album of the week pick. I bet it will be a good one. I'm glad to see another Albert King fan here. He's one of my all-time favorite bluesmen. His rap in "I'll Play the Blues for You" is so smooth. I don't know if you dig mid-seventies King, but his I Wanna Get Funky album is one of my favorites. I love the song "Flat Tire" - It cracks me up.

I've never gotten into Hayes' Black Moses. I'm more of a Hot Buttered Soul type of guy. I'll give it another listen.

Today's listening:

John Coltrane - Transition

Charlie Haden/Pat Metheny - Beyond the Missouri Sky

Donald Byrd - Byrd in Hand

Non-jazz

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (new reissue) - sounds REALLY good!

For the last 3 nights I've been trying to listen to a disc of orchestral transcriptions (of works by other composers) by Schoenberg and Webern. This stuff is very interesting, and I keep getting interrupted by phone calls, dinner, etc.

For those interested, it is by Michael Gielen / SWF Sym Orch playing: Brahms Piano Qr #1 (Schoenberg arrangement), Bach Fugue Ricercar (Webern arr) and Johann Strauss Kaiserwalter (Schoenberg). Great stuff!
