Shawn Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 That would be an interesting book to read...I have to admit though that I've never really heard any kind words about Blackmore as a person. According to the rest of the band he became a ruthless dictator who stifled the creativity of the others. (Kind of sounds like Roger Waters, huh?) Quote
7/4 Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 I look forward to finding out how much of an asshole Blackmore is/was. . Quote
7/4 Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 I zipped through the Rainbow years. Yes, people think he's an asshole...events could use a bit more detail. I'd like to know what really happened. I'll go back and read it from the beginning tonight. . Quote
7/4 Posted April 9, 2010 Author Report Posted April 9, 2010 Boy howdy, this brings back some memories... anyways...I loved this band. some of those tunes still hold up today. I'd say my favorite album is Who Do We Think We Are? Quote
JETman Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Ah......to be 12 again!!! I have the first Blackmore's Rainbow album, with Dio's first appearance on record. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 (edited) I recall being very impressed by them on a TV programme called 'South Bank Summer' c.1970 - Ritchie Blackmore smashed his guitar up. Worth it for my Dad's reaction - 'That's not music' or 'They should bring back National Service' or 'Are they boys or girls?' Or something similar. What rock music is meant to do to parents (it must be awful being a kid today when your parents are likely to enjoy your Coldplay album). Jon Lord seems to have reinvented himself as a writer of popular, tuneful, light classics: Both have received pleasant reviews in Gramophone magazine. I suspect they gave the reviews to sympathetic writers rather than the snooties who see it as their duty to guard the portals of high culture from the barbarians. Must give them a try. The general view is that they are very derivative of 19thC classical music and you can easily spot the influences. But I'm always up for a good tune. Edited April 9, 2010 by Bev Stapleton Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 I played 'Machine Head' last night and it didn't sound all that heavy, just a normal rock record. Shows what has happened since! Quote
