Bluerein Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) Just a note to get the discussion going on a forthcoming Mosaic set with all the Oscar Peterson Verve Trio's with Herb Ellis. Sceduled for later this year. Will post more details when they are mailed to me by MC. Correction: It's 1951 to '53. All the sessions with Barney Kessel before Herb Ellis joined! Cliff Englewood Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I wasn't that interested until your correction but now that actually sounds quite good, can't get enough of Barney. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 What was it Chuck said? "I just got a chill."? I just got a chill. Quote
king ubu Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Yes, with Kessel it could be interesting enough... don't have much of the trio with Ellis (or the later one with Thigpen) and don't feel like buying much more than I have... but with Kessel - any idea how big that set would be? The bigger, the less likely I'll buy, I guess. Quote
sidewinder Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I'll schedule purchase of this for Last Chance - circa 2013 Quote
Bluerein Posted May 14, 2008 Author Report Posted May 14, 2008 It's the 51 - 53 sessions with Kessel (one with Ashby and one with Alvin Stoller on drums). Not too chilly for you I hope, Lon! Quote
jlhoots Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 What was it Chuck said? "I just got a chill."? I just got a chill. Is that good or bad? Quote
jazzbo Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I was just anticipating an OP bashing as we've had before. There's a lot of good music here. Quote
JSngry Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 As Oscar Pettifor Mosaic? EXCELLENT idea! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 As Oscar Pettifor Mosaic? EXCELLENT idea! Sure you don't mean Pinafore? Quote
Ron S Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 As Oscar Pettifor Mosaic? EXCELLENT idea! Sure you don't mean Pinafore? Yeah, how 'bout a D'Oyly Carte Mosaic? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Don't want no oily carts, nomatter the artistic value. Going for a towel now. Quote
Ron S Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I'd settle for a Penzance Select, or even a Mikado Single. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Will it contain any live material taken from the '52 world tour of theirs? Quote
Bluerein Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 Nope only studio material. It will be a 7 cd set and the release is set for october/november (so perfectly in time for under your christmas trees!!). Quote
sidewinder Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 As Oscar Pettifor Mosaic? EXCELLENT idea! Sure you don't mean Pinafore? Yeah, how 'bout a D'Oyly Carte Mosaic? You mean the Complete Covent Garden Live sessions? :rsmile: Quote

Tony Pusey Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Sidewinder- i think you are misstaken, that would be a very slim Mosaic- but the complete Sadlers Wells edition would be great! Quote
Brad Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 If they can make a Peterson Mosaic, why can't we at the very least get a Three Sounds Select or even a little itty bitty CD? Quote
Dan Gould Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 If they can make a Peterson Mosaic, why can't we at the very least get a Three Sounds Select or even a little itty bitty CD? Because OP was a worldwide star for 50 years while the Three Sounds 'just' helped keep Blue Note afloat? Quote
user0815 Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 is there anything by oscar peterson that is not in print at the moment ? whenever i look in the jazz section in the cd-stores over here i get the impression that every second disc is an oscar peterson trio album ... Quote
Swinging Swede Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 There are actually many Clef/Verve albums that haven't been on CD. Unfortunately I think several albums will be incompletely represented on this Mosaic set, since many 12" albums drew their material from different sessions in the 1951-54 period, some with Kessel and some without. Face of the Bass Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Is the world really lacking in Oscar Peterson releases? Quote
jazzbo Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Well, there's no Mosaic OP title, and I can see the appeal of having one. And this is a good choice of "theme" and the music that will be found on this set is bound to be quite nice. (What I know of the material is good!) Quote
