It would be interesting to see them combined into a dbl album, maybe even mixing up cuts from the two days. An all blues by Lester compilation could be a revealing thing too. Quote

HutchFan Posted November 17, 2020 Report Posted November 17, 2020 Buddy Tate - "The Talk of the Town" from The Texas Twister Quote
HutchFan Posted November 18, 2020 Report Posted November 18, 2020 Love everything about this. The composition, the way they've transformed it into something very different from Coltrane's version of the tune. The arrangement, how all of the musical elements seem to come together in an "interlocking" groove. And, of course, the wonderful contributions from each of the musicians. Each individual is WAY UP there, flying HIGH -- but they're also playing together "as one." Just tremendous. Quote

And that's the cue... "Fantazm" with Carney on bass clarinet! Wow! Revisiting the 1948 Carnegie Hall concert and yes, “Fantazm” jumped out at me as well. Sounds like a missing chapter from the Tizol-Duke songbook. Can’t find the Carnegie performance on YouTube, but here it is from Cornell a month later: Quote
