Peter Friedman Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 Just listened to this CD for the first time. The entire album is one of the best new (to me) CDs I haveheard in quite some time. George Mraz is and has been one of my very favorite bass players. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted October 16, 2015 Report Posted October 16, 2015 (edited) Vaughan Williams song based on a 19thC poem. Extremely well known and generally performed in a plummy, parlour room style.Fay Hield's singing of it here always gets the waterworks going for me. Martin Simpson's guitar accompaniment is precisely judged. A perfect ending to a wonderful album. Edited October 16, 2015 by A Lark Ascending Quote
Jim R Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 When it ended, I almost thought I wanted to hear more, and then realized that it couldn't have been improved upon. Just generally a favorite tune of mine, also. Quote

erwbol Posted November 15, 2015 Report Posted November 15, 2015 Composition 40B from Willisau (Quartet) 1991. Everytime I hear this track I am struck with how perfect it is and how hard it swings. Quote
Steve Reynolds Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 "Misericords" 13:04 opening track from Ghostly Thoughts c/o Dunmall, Adams & Sanders fwiw, as I've been saying for many years, the whole CD is as good and as explosivly innovative as free jazz can get. There is no other recording to compare it to. Thoroughly its own piece. Quote

Steve Reynolds Posted November 21, 2015 Report Posted November 21, 2015 15 minute trio track on Steve Swell's Kanreki trio is Swell, Guillermo Gregorio & Fred Lonberg-Holm fwiw, I am resisting at all costs putting disc 1 in which starts with a 31:19 piece by Dragonfly at least until the day after 11/24 which is the night I see that quartet live up close and personal. I have a feeling that track and maybe that concert might be more than simply, "the best track I've listened to this week" Quote
Buddha the Magnificent Posted November 27, 2015 Report Posted November 27, 2015 Guillermo Klein y Los Gauchos - Filtros (Sunnyside Records, 2008). Tough to pick one song off this fantastic album, but let's go with the first cut, Va Roman. Here's a live version. Quote

John Tapscott Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 (edited) Well, I'll pick 2 tracks from this recording -- "Autumn Leaves and "Nardis" . This is an outstanding CD in every way and reminds me of one of my very favorite piano trio recordings - Beirach's "Elegy for Bill Evans", which I have only on a rather scratchy and worn LP.
