Alexander Hawkins Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 love the first Foxes Fox CD - will get the new one soon. maybe my most played Evan Parker recording over the last few years. Louis Moholo-Moholo is superb on that recording Wonderful group...the first time I ever played with Louis was when Evan asked me to sub in this group when Steve Beresford couldn't make a show...and in fact, I'd never even met him until that point, although I have the honour of doing a few things with him now...but that was some kind of baptism of fire! Valeria Victrix Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 Nine Inch Nails: Closer. One of the greatest grooves ever! If your toes don't tap wildly and your shoulders start moving involuntarily, the doctor will recommend a Jaegerbomber and a turn or two on the dancefloor! Quote
Steve Reynolds Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 Can's 'Waiting for the Streetcar' from the recently issued Lost Tapes Malcolm Moooney at his insane best ranting for almost the whole 10 minutes with a groove that is right up there with Can's best. Quote
John Tapscott Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Actually, one heard and seen - from the Jazz Icons 4 Bonus DVD Blue Lou - Coleman Hawkins, Benny Carter,Teddy Wilson, Bob Cranshaw, Louis Bellson - London, England, Dec. 1, 1966. Very good late-period Hawkins. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 (edited) Utterly bewitched today listening to Christy Moore singing 'Shine on You Crazy Diamond'. A grand, technicolour piece if ever there was one, stripped down to a simple, gentle, poignant ballad. I love the original but Christy makes the song his own by simply not even trying to approach the scale of the original. Comes from here: Edited August 23, 2012 by A Lark Ascending Quote
BillF Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 Lee Morgan's "Ceora" from the above album, largely on the strength of Eric Alexander's superb solo against a big band background. Have always felt that the absence of an own name big band album (AFAIK) from Eric's massive discography is a regrettable omission. Quote
JohnS Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 David Murray's Trio recorded at The Hague in 1988 playing Mr PC, particularly notable for Sunny Murray swinging hard using brushes alone Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 (edited) Two this week I heard on early morning radio that stopped me in my tracks. Don't know the performers but they were versions of: Bach: Violin Concerto No 1 - slow movementMozart: Serenade 10 - 'Gran Partita' - slow movement I've know both for yonks but somehow they hit extra hard this week. John Tapscott Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Two tracks Keen and Peachy followed by Pennies From Heaven from Disc 2 The first has a marvelous solo by Bennie Green (who is excellent through both sets IMO), and the 2nd has a very fine solo by Hank. Great stuff all around. Quote
