Hot Ptah Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 Jay McShann playing 'Round Midnight from the album "Kansas City Hustle" (Sackville) That is an album which deserves greater recognition. It is one of my favorite McShann albums. Quote
RDK Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Not specifically a track - there are two of 'em - but a tune: Enrico Pieranunzi's "The Kingdom (Where Nobody Dies)." Man is this beautiful! Found two versions on Emusic today: one by Mads Vinding's trio (with Enrico) and another with strings on Enrico's "Les Amants" album. Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Bob Marley's "Redemption song" sung by Robbie Jansen, from the album "Nomad jez" (Mountain). Robbie doesn't really sing very well, and doesn't play alto on this track at all, but the feeling behind it is soul-grabbing. He then goes on to play and sing "What's going on" with his son doing backup vocals. Again, the feeling behind the vocal is wrenching. Some great music is coming out of South Africa. MG Quote

king ubu Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 not a track, really, but the title melody of Hitchcock's "Marnie", of course by Bernard Herman - kept haunting me for a couple of days. too bad Stephan Oliva didn't cover it on his "Ghosts of Bernard Herman" disc - would love to hear some jazz version(s) of that melody, and Oliva could pull that! There is a pretty nice Marnie "suite" on this... Marnie is one of my favorite Herrmann scores as well...absolutely gorgeous. Quote
