mikeweil Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 (edited) There is an offer for Shirley Scott's Candid CD Skylark on ebay Germany. Is this a good Cd of her, or would you recommend something else for starters? Thanks for any advice! p.s. the seller calls the label "Candido" ?!?! Edited October 7, 2003 by mikeweil Quote
jazzbo Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Mike in my opinion, Shirley was a very consistent and consistently good player. Almost any of her OJC cds will please, I wish more of her Imulses were available cheaply, and I haven't heard this Candid release, ever, but I bet it's good. Her latest (or one of her latest) OJC cd releases, "Like Cozy," has been getting a lot of play in my machines. She plays some piano as well as organ on this one. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 It's on Candid. She had three records on Candid and all are very nice records. She made them right before she got sick from complications of Fen-Phen. I believe Skylark has her playing piano, but I can't remember. Two of the Candid releases are organ affairs and one is piano. She is a very fine pianist!! She can play piano just as good as she plays the organ, so don't let that dissuade you. Quote
mikeweil Posted October 7, 2003 Author Report Posted October 7, 2003 The Candid Records website says Skylark is a piano trio with Arthur Harper and Mickey Roker - that was easy to find out. What I needed was some advice, and that's what you gave me, as always. Thanks, fellowes! Those early Prestige piano sessions look nice as well, I see many dangers to my budget ... Quote
