Big Al Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 (edited) Hey folks, I'm eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Vandemark 5's "Single Piece Flow" which I'm getting in a trade. Outside of a sax/drum duet I heard on the radio a few years back, I've never heard anything by Ken Vandemark in any incarnation. I've yet to read anything disparaging about Vandemark (well, at least by people who know what jazz is), so I'm finally gonna hear what all the fuss is about. So, whet my appetite. Just how avant-garde is it? If I like this, where to go from here? Edited March 27, 2003 by Big Al Quote
JohnS Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 (edited) That's great news Al. I was completely won over by the V5 when they played in London about 18 months ago. I expected a lot of free raucous blowing but there was this organised and adventurous band which was right up my street. I've heard a lot by Vandermark since and it's nearly all been great. The New Jazz Classics is a fine place to go, the new Airports For Light is fine too. Also try out anything by the DKV Trio. They burn too. Nothing scary at all. : Edited March 27, 2003 by JohnS Quote
