Chalupa Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 So now it looks like the Sixers have the inside track on Brand and I gotta say that I'm not happy. I would much rather see them get Josh Smith than Brand. I think Smith fits in better w/ the Sixers' run n' gun offense. He's only 23 so I can only see him getting better. Brand is 29 and didn't play last year because of a knee injury(Hmm.. overpriced power forward w/ bad knees... Chris Webber anyone???) Even if he's healthy(which isn't a given at this point) he's too fat to run up and down the floor w/ the rest of the thoroughbreds on the Sixers. Really hoping they lose out on the Brand sweepstakes. BruceW Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Hey Guys, I hate to break in on the thread but I now have another test to pass. I have cancer. Found out a couple of days ago. Prostate cancer. Facts: I cannot have surgery because of my heart medication Plavix. My wife and I are considering other options including radiation or freezing. Apparently freezing is one of the newest techniques finally approved by the medical societies. I still have to take a bone scan to find out if the cancer is confined or spreading. Will keep all of you posted. :bwallace2: Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Bruce, that's terrible news. You'll pull through. Much love. Quote
Aggie87 Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Bruce - I'm sure you'll make the right decision regarding your options, and then fight the good fight. As Yogi Berra said, 90% of the battle is 50% mental. Quote
paul secor Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Bruce - You have the strength and depth of character to pull through this. Plus, your family and everyone here - even the non-Pistons fans - are behind you. All the best to you as you fight the good fight. Please keep us posted. Quote
Noj Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Bruce, I'll be thinking positive thoughts for you. Quote
Chalupa Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Prostate cancer is pretty curable. My Father-in-Law discovered that he had it about 18 months ago. He is 71 and probably had it for years(the last time he went to the doctors was when Reagan was in office.) Anyway, his doctor told him he was too old for the surgery so he went the radiation and chemo route instead. He is fine now. Two guys that I work w/ had the surgery. They have both had all kinds of complications, which I won't go into here. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that not being able to have the surgery is not necessarily a bad thing. Good luck and stay positive. Quote

BruceW Posted July 12, 2008 Report Posted July 12, 2008 (edited) First let me say THANKS A LOT GUYS, I APPRECIATE YOUR CONCERNS AND WELL WISHES. I have done a lot of research in just this week to find out about different treatments and availabilities. Information is the key to my health. And I feel healthy now. LATEST, I still need the bone scan test which should be forthcoming this coming week. Barring any complication, my choices have been narrowed down to EBT and IMRT, and the newest treatment, cryotherapy. Either one should provide me with a successful result. Thanks again for your responses and well wishes. Just remember, all you musicians, keep the jazz music going. You know what, I used to think I could not tell anyone about my playing until my music was perfect. That is just not true anymore. I have some vids on YouTube. Search for Vibeman27 and 5 or 6 of my vids will come up. Take them for what they are worth and enjoy. Thanks guys BruceW a Piston lover :bwallace2: Edited July 12, 2008 by BruceW Quote

BruceW Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Yeah, Yeah, I am still here though. Piston fan ready to rumble....... You make it sound like it was intentional. It was not, it was an unfortunate accident of Mahorn trying to keep the players separated. Say it like it is man. :bwallace2: Quote
Noj Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 When did Rick Mahorn stop beating his wife? Kidding, I thought it looked unintentional as well. Clippers landed Marcus Camby to replace Elton Brand, which is about as good as they could expect to do. Poor Clips. Quote

Always liked Camby, even when he was with the Knicks, but he sure has trouble staying healthy. I think he did play most of last season, so perhaps there is hope yet. Quote

The plus side - Camby will get you 10+ rebounds a game. The minus side - Camby only averages about 60 games a season, and he's 34 years old. Quote

He is going be forced to score some points or else Chris Kaymen (Caymen?) will put Camby on the bench and of no value to the team. Question: anybody think Caymen and Camby will play side by side? :bwallace2: Quote
Chalupa Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 (edited) Kwame Brown is headed back to the Eastern Conference. Brown's agent, Mark Bartlestein, told ESPN.com on Monday night that the former No. 1 pick in the 2001 draft has reached a verbal agreement on a new contract with the Detroit Pistons. The contract is believed to be a two-year deal worth $8 million http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3508699 (sorry, I couldn't resist) Edited July 29, 2008 by J.H. Deeley Quote
Dave James Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 I am pretty excited about the potential here in Portland. If Greg Oden's knee holds up and Rudy Fernandez is half of what the hype says he is, this is going to be some kind of entertaining season. We already have Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge and Jerryd Bayless looks like he could be the pick of this year's litter. Paul Allen has the deepest pockets in all of professional sports and we have the best GM on the planet in Kevin Pritchard. Rip City baby. Bring on those Lakers. Up over and out. Quote

What in the hell was Joe Dumars thinking of?? Sheed in any state-of-mind is better than Kwame.... :bwallace2: Quote
Noj Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Kwame has the worst hands of any big man in the game. He's nowhere near the basketball player Rasheed Wallace is. I'm baffled too, Bruce. Quote
paul secor Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 I don't find much that I'd classify as unbelievable, but that any team, let alone a good team like the Pistons, would offer a contract to Kwame Brown boggles the mind. I feel sorry for Bruce. I celebrated when the Lakers shed him last season. Not only does he have the worst hands of any big man in the league, he's also probably the laziest ass in the league. As I said, Bruce - sorry you'll have to suffer his presence. Quote

As I said, Bruce - sorry you'll have to suffer his presence. You know, Like when most bad things happen we tend to look at the worse side and also point fingers. I did this wondering how in the world Joe D could do this. After thinking about it, Joe Dumars is considered one of the geniuses, albiet a few mistakes here and there, but nontheless, one of the basketball geniuses. He MUST have something up his sleeve. I just can't see him being hoodwinked regarding Kwame Brown. Joe MUST know something we don't. Consider this (just a thought). Kwame will play because he is big and can clog the middle (little offense really needed from him). Joe D keeps Sheed and puts him back out at forward so he can rome, set picks, pass, and shoot the 3's. (It is true that Sheed never did like playing center). I certainly don't know how much good that would do, but it is a thought. BruceW :bwallace2: Quote
