RDK
The days where I'd pay $30 for a reissue of something I already have are most definitely over. Yeah, know what you mean. I get excited about these - the LPs too - but when it comes time to fork over the cash I usually think better of it. But there are probably a few titles that I don't have and a couple of favorites that I might sample to assuage my curiosity.
Shawn
The only one that I'd even be tempted to get is A Caddy For Daddy, it's one of my favorite Mobley records and I'd love an upgrade to the old BN issue (of course this should eventually show up as an RVG as well). Parkertown
Yes, there is already an SACD of Blue Train. But it blows... Blows what and why, compared to....? I really don't know. I have had the music on early BN pressings (mono and stereo) and at least 3 cd versions. Does anyone think the music gets better as the formats move along? It is so dang bright and harsh. But I have a big problem with this recording anyway... The reverb on the horns just kills it for me. You can even hear it oscillating!!! This title needs to be tamed... Parkertown
Oh...and what does it blow? Chunks of course...
BruceH
Nope, CD is the new analogue. Digital = downloads I get ya; CD's are "OLD digital." (BTW, I always preferred analog to analogue.)
MichL
I just got off the phone and confirmed with Michael Cuscuna that Analogue Productions will be issuing 25 Blue Note titles on hybrid SACDs. No idea of the timetable, but I do know that the DSD masters are already done. They were made as they played back the masters during the 45 rpm LP mastering. The 25 titles are: Jackie McLean - Capuchin Swing John Patton - Along Came John Ike Quebec - It Might As Well Be Spring Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Moanin' Hank Mobley - A Caddy For Daddy Jackie McLean - Jackie's Bag Dexter Gordon - Go Lou Donaldson - Blues Walk Dexter Gordon - Dexter Calling Fred Jackson - Hootin' 'N Tootin' Grant Green - Idle Moments Grant Green - Green Street Art Taylor - A.T.'s Delight Lee Morgan - Lee-way Paul Chambers - Whims of Chambers Joe Henderson - Page One Cannonball Adderley - Somethin' Else Ike Quebec - Soul Samba Bossa Nova Lou Donaldson - Here 'Tis Horace Silver - The Tokyo Blues John Coltrane - Blue Train Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue The Three Sounds - Bottom's Up Kenny Dorham - Whistle Stop Sonny Rollins - Vol. 2 Hi: Called yesterday to ask which titles would be coming out in July. Son-of-a-Weizen
Seeing that 'final design still pending' bit I called them last week to make sure that it's a dual use box....one that can also be used to store the BN JRVGs. They hadn't thought about that.
