jazzbo Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 I may be weird. . . I like the original and expanded Head On. I'd have preferred it remastered by someone else but I'm not begging and choosing. Quote
skeith Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 I may be weird. . . I like the original and expanded Head On. I'd have preferred it remastered by someone else but I'm not begging and choosing. Not at all. I am not saying I am right and I usually agree with your take ... just not this time. Maybe it's just a matter of differing tastes. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Oh totally, I feel that way, differing tastes, I encounter that all the time. I have had the original Head On a long time, which may be a reason, it may seem a bit dated now, it didn't when I first started hearing it. And it's nice to have it without certain lp effects! Quote
Sundog Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Totally digging "Head On"... right in my wheelhouse! Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 (edited) Just got me some Aztec Sweet for $6.99. Can't get enough Chico O'Farrill. Now, it's only a matter of time before we get a twofer of "Jungle Jazz" and "African Jazz" by The Great Les Baxter, featuring Plas Johnson and Larry Bunker. Bluesnik Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 Here's a list: 1994-07-12 thanks for the list. so this confirms what i maintain: that the 90s were the best time for reissues ever. 1998 was an outstanding year and remember the excellent impulse reissues. Quote
Shawn Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 That 1998 batch might have been the first straw in the breaking camel's back, the West Coast classics releases and the 10inch LP reissue Conns all tanked in the sales department (if memory serves). They vanished from the stores in a blink of an eye. Quote

jazzbo Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 That's when my financial situation started to get out of hand. . . . Quote

jmjk Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 That's when my financial situation started to get out of hand. . . . ditto Yep. Good old days when the selection was plentiful, but I'd walk out of a store empty handed and angry because I'd already bought it all. Quote

They came faster and 1998 might as well have been the best year there. The final few came in 2000 already. Quote
