Late Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 In 1998 alone there were three Connoisseur batches and two West Coast Classics batches. And the Rare Groove series was still alive. Those were the days. Indeed. 1998 was a great year for reissues. Many great OJC single and comp. reissues were also released that year, and Mosaic put out their usual gems (the Bud Shank among them). Even Columbia/Legacy's reissue program was going strong. Glad that Cuscuna got as many titles out there when he did. Quote

Late Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Grant Green - Seepin'... ??? Actually a typo for Steepin' ... Little known fact: Grant Green is short for Grant Greentea. ( ) Quote
user0815 Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Grant Green - Seepin'... ??? correct title of this release is "first session". "seepin'" is track number 2 on the cd. Quote
Swinging Swede Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Grant Green - Seepin'... ??? Ah yes, it was first announced as that, but when it came out the title had been changed to First Session (although it doesn't contain the entire first session). I'll edit the list. The same thing happened to A Bluish Bag which first was announced as Blues For Del. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 we need to get the complete connoisseur list pinned at the top of a thread w/o being able to post on it Quote
mgraham333 Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Posted May 7, 2008 we need to get the complete connoisseur list pinned at the top of a thread w/o being able to post on it agreed - and add to that the RVGs and Verve LPRs and any other series that seem appropriate Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 A good addition to the Connoisseur list would be to add a notation for the titles that were released simultaneously on LP. I am often asked that and I don't remember. Quote

JETman Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 well cd universe just emailed me that the new ones were shipped - no price change though. I've been trying hard to get them to realize that classifying 4 of the 5 (excluding "Smithville") as imports is in fact incorrect. Got an email from them this morning that they have lowered the price of "Head On", and are currently reviewing the others. I have a feeling that they will come to see things "our" way. When they do, just give them a call on their toll free number (1-800-231-7937) and they will either credit you or refund the price difference. I think that they have a price protection policy for 2 weeks or so from shipping date. Quote
Late Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 A rare first: The Borders here got all the Connoisseurs in stock today and on the shelves! Naturally, I was compelled to use the 40% off coupon on three of them (the limit for the coupon). Spinning the Turrentine right now. Quote
BruceH Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Just got Smithville and am spinning it for the second time right now. So cool that Charlie Rouse is on this one! For the millionth time I wish that Smith had done more than two albums for Blue Note. Quote
