Noj Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 (edited) Somehow I never pictured Marvin lounging on the couch when I listened to his albums. Was his band funky or what? Those cats were groovin'. Edited April 14, 2008 by Noj Quote
JSngry Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 According to the David Ritz bio, Marvin recorded all of his tracks while lounging on a sofa. Quote
Joe G Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 That was some baaad shit. Thanks for that. Quote
Noj Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 According to the David Ritz bio, Marvin recorded all of his tracks while lounging on a sofa. I didn't know that! Marvin was the man. Quote
Dave James Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Wow...I mean WOW! Up over and out. Quote
Soul Stream Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Funny how the music doesn't sound like much until Marvin starts singing...then it all happens...(great musicians by the way, whoever they are...) Quote
Peter Johnson Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 OMG, amazing. Thanks for posting this. And that spinning piano! Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 man that was funky. Seriously, Marvin really cut all those tracks on a sofa? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 (edited) Speaking (typing) as a singer (albeit a choral singer), I can tell you that lying down like that simply sucks as far as being able to really produce much breath support. Probably doesn't matter much if one is really close-miked -- but still, I would tend to think that sofa stuff would really have some kind of negative effect on tone and breath support. Then again, with the way Marvin sings (not full voice, and isn't that practically all falsetto??), maybe breath support isn't/wasn't much of an issue. Edited April 15, 2008 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Bright Moments Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 surely this belongs in the sexiest music video thread! Quote
RDK Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Damn. I lay on a couch like that, all I do is fall asleep. Quote
umum_cypher Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Is this the Belgium footage? I know he's lying on the sofa singing at some point in that. But I have a clearer memory of the part where he's playing darts with the locals in some grimy Ostend boozer. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 And does anyone know what that first 15-second (prior to the abrupt cut) clip of him singing "amen" in a church is from? Quote
JSngry Posted April 16, 2008 Author Report Posted April 16, 2008 I knew about the stay in Belgium, but not about any "Belgium footage"! No idea about the church thing, or about any of this clip, but if it is from Belgium, the "excile" years, that makes it very interesting.... Quote
porcy62 Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 (edited) Damn. I lay on a couch like that, all I do is fall asleep. unless you spin a Marvin Gaye's record. Edited April 16, 2008 by porcy62 Quote
