7/4 Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 There is no ritual, Sunday is just another day. Today it's a Phillip Glass morning. Saxophone The Orphee Suite for Piano (so-so) Early Voice (a few more listens and I should be raving about this) It's 11:47, afternoon should arrive in a few hours with Jazz. :rsmile: Quote
Jazz Kat Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 This is hard, my dad doesn't usually let me stay in the house on Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons. So any time I do, is lucky. Quote
Shawn Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 I try to keep things on a relaxed tip on Sunday's...cause if I don't the "monday morning work demons" try to creep in and stress me out prior to starting the week. This morning: Johnny Griffin/Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis - Pisces (lovely ballad session) Red Garland - Red Alone Lou Donaldson - Lush Life Hank Mobley - a ballad compilation I put together Quote
gslade Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Started with a little grease (grant green) now back to the Beethoven Violin Sonatas Disc #2 Quote
ghost of miles Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Lots of Ellington (hmmm, that definitely happens on more than Sundays). Definitely a tendency towards early jazz and big-band on Sunday a.m.--with room for the occasional rocking-out a la Kinks or some such. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 last sunday this guy backed his car right into my drivers' side door at the 7-11 idiot wasn't even payin' attention Quote
Ed S Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 (edited) Not a church goer either so I have a block of time on Sunday mornings as well. I have found that over the past several years I've gravitated toward listening to a block of older music on Sunday mornings. Generally, it's a Mosaic set. Something like the Django, Venuti/Lang, a big band set, Bailey, Ventura/Phillips. Still find that I'm reserving Sunday mornings for older stuff. I've got quite a lot more sets now, but I really enjoy coffee and the paper and older jazz. These days, material like the the Billie Holiday Columbia set, Bunny Berigan, Stuff Smith, The Lester Young Verve, Prima/Manone, Charlie Parker make it to the play list. kinuta Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 This morning I listened to Woody Shaw Mosaic disc three and some Dionne Warwick. Also dug out an old Dusty Springfield gem called ' My Colouring Book ' followed by a few cuts from Marvin Gaye. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 Marvin Gaye, the Detroit mix of What's Goin' On, was in the mix this morning. As well as a lot of Stan Getz. And Miles at the Keystone Korner 1975. Quote
GA Russell Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 This is a good thread! I hadn't realized how much of my Sunday music was even more relaxing than usual. I started the afternoon with Stan Kenton's New Concepts of Artistry in Rhythm (with Russo and Holman charts), and am now listening to the soundtracks of Our Man Flint and In Like Flint, which are on one CD. Jazz Kat Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 We all need something to brighten up our Sundays. Besides music; just think of the fact it ain't Monday! Quote
jazzbo Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 (edited) This morning I listened to Beethoven's Third (Bernstein, Vienna Philharmonic, DG), and "The Gellers" downloaded from Verve Vault, and downloaded three lps from http://www.sabadabada.com, Elis' "Como & Porque," and Monk's "Brilliant Corners." Shortly, it will be Marvin's "What's Goin' On". . . . Edited May 22, 2005 by jazzbo Quote
Sundog Posted May 22, 2005 Author Report Posted May 22, 2005 My Sunday Morning music was the sound of my Dewalt cordless drill. Now chilling to.... The Complete Atlantic Recordings Of Lennis Tristano, Lee Konitz, & Warne Marsh (Mosaic), Disc 6 Quote

wesbed Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 I started this Sunday morning with some tunes from Steely Dan. Had breakfast with a friend in a restaurant at 9:00AM. Was on the road in the Jeep with same friend by 10:30AM. Now it's near 11:30PM and I'm enjoying a late Sunday evening with Thelonious Monk. Quote
chris olivarez Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 I haven't listened to music on Sunday morning recently but if the opportunity presents itself soon it's set aside for the Bill Evans Riverside box. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 I don't know about Sunday mornings (rarely do I get up early on that "sacred" day), but this morning I listened to AMM music from The Crypt, 1968... Quote
