jlhoots Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 Heard the Michael Brecker Quintet live last night. They (Brecker, Calderazzo, Minh Doky, Rogers) exceeded my expectations. It was the playing of drummer Clarence Penn that seemed to be the major inspiration. He was phenomenal. I'm going to go back to Play Penn on Criss Cross today. Quote
jazz1 Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 It was the playing of drummer Clarence Penn that seemed to be the major inspiration. . Saw the Dave Douglas quintet last year and to me Clarence was the highlight. Phenomenal playing, never too loud, very tasty indeed Quote
sal Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 He's one of the best up and coming drummers out there. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 I only know Penn's playing on this: But from that alone, I'm totally sold. For me, any disc he's on is worth serious consideration for purchace. Quote
