Larry Kart Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I was watching Disco Whatever The Hell It Was, and it looked to me like what the drummer was playing did not match what I was hearing. Certainly none of his cymbal strokes were audible, which in itself may not prove anything, but it seemed to me like nothing he did matched up. Quote

I didn't see it, but if it's a modern pop group, it wouldn't surprise me. You remember Ashlee Simpson's famous lip sync hoe down episode on SNL a couple of years ago. I'd bet the majority of the younger, less talented pop musicians do it. Quote
JSngry Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Or maybe they were using a drum machine live. Might have been MIDI-ed/sequenced/whatever & the live drummer was just there for...whatever. Doesn't mean that the band wasn't "live", which these days...once you eliminate the scenario of nobody doing anything but pantomiming, what does that really mean anyway? And technically, I don't think that too much of anything is "on tape" anymore... Quote

Their new album, "Pretty. Odd." is pretty darn good. Didn't see them on SNL though. "Nine in the Afternoon" is a fun song. Quote

I watched the show after reading your post (I usually tape the show and watch it the next day). It looked to me that the drummer was playing live, at least the few times that I could see him. Quote
