bertrand Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I highly recommend this recording. Sad to think Dewy was supposed to do this date but passed just a weeks before. Oliver Lake stepped in and plays wonderfully, as does Tim Hagans. 'Boody' and 'Love is' are especially great. Bertrand. Quote

I have an enjoy Talkin' Stick, Trio Transition feat Oliver Lake, Expandable Language. He seems to have issued a fair number of releases in the past 2 decades. Any particular recommendations ?? Quote

Heavy Spirits on Arista and Shine on Novus are good LP sides. Buster Bee with Julius Hemphill on Sackville is classic. The Prophet on Black Saint, too. So yeah, thumbs up on OL from me! Quote

Not least because he kept raising his sax during supposedly exciting passages and went off-mic so we never heard a note. Sure looked exciting though. Montreal Festival IIRC. Quote

The only exception were some of Paul Motian's more outside leaning groups. It took 25 years for the "mainstream" to include another great I've seen Trio 3 a number of times and they have always delivered. Andrew Cyrille remains one of the great drummers in this music. Quote
