John L Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Fabulous! This is the holly grail Mosaic set that we have dreaming about for at least 20 years. Quote
Clunky Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 How many discs is this one likely to be ? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 I really doubt any Freedom material will be included. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 I have Silence and The Complete Braxton on Intercord/Freedom. Were there any other Braxtons issued under that aegis? If indeed the Braxton is released, I'm definitely buying it! Quote

If indeed the Braxton is released, I'm definitely buying it! I'm confused here as my copy of The Complete Braxton 1971 is Arista/Freedom , small print however says licensed from Black Lion. What ever I'll be on this set at some point I have no doubt Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 All of the material on Arista/Freedom was licensed from Alan Bates, owner of Black Lion and Freedom (at the time). Complete Braxton was initially issued in a German pressing on the Freedom label. Braxton is also on one side of a Freedom lp by Richard Teitelbaum. That material is included on a Black Lion cd reissue of Silence. Quote
David Gitin Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Fabulous! This is the holly grail Mosaic set that we have dreaming about for at least 20 years. I woke up this morning thinking about it (and then read the thread). Very good news! Quote
Rob C Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 I'll believe it when I see it on the Mosaic site.... (But I will hope until then.) Quote

7/4 Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 When I heard about this last Summer, it was on a different label. . Quote
Chalupa Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 FWIW... Michael has been selling items from his LP collection on Ebay for the past 3 or 4 months. I bought his copies of the Complete Braxton and the Montreux/Berlin Concerts. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Braxton is also on one side of a Freedom lp by Richard Teitelbaum. OK, I have that on what appears to be a later Arista LP, without a Freedom logo. It is very good. Quote
B. Clugston Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 How many discs is this one likely to be ? The Arista material should fit on 8 discs, depending on extra material. There are two versions of 23G that were recorded but rejected for the Berlin/Montreux Concerts. As for the "Freedom" material, the Complete Braxton was a 2 LP set and Silence was 1 LP. Time Zones with Teitelbaum was 1 LP with Braxton on both sides. Silence and Time Zones were reissued on 1 disc by Black Lion. Quote

BeBop Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 I guess this means I should sell off all those LPs now... Quote

7/4 Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 The order word I have heard is "incomplete." That maybe be the case, I don't think they can fit it all on 7 CDs. Which is OK by me, I don't really need a CD release of the orchestra piece. . Quote
rostasi Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 (edited) It should be interesting to see how they split things up. I would think that the two pieces, For Four Orchestras (Composition 82) (1hr:54min) and the Oppens/Rzewski recording of For Two Pianos (Composition 95) (49:53) would fit nicely on a 3 disc set with some other pieces filling out 4 more discs. I haven't yet done the math to see how all of the Arista sides add up. Edited April 5, 2008 by rostasi Quote
mjzee Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 I just hope this doesn't bankrupt Mosaic. I don't think it will sell well. Quote
